Downton Abbey PA Story

Hi

I don't watch this but any coverage of PA/B12 is good:

m.huffpost.com/us/entry/dow...

It is just a pity that this article is factually incorrect in that it cannot be reversed with one injection!

I can imagine lots of people who currently suffer with PA or just plain old b12d spitting feathers at this, as it is so wrong to assume that one injection will make it all go away!

When first broadcast, there was a thread here on precisely that subject:

healthunlocked.com/pasoc/po...

He didn't have PA...

Sorry I must have missed that thread. Yes not all publicity is good if it perpetuates the myth it is easily treated with one injection!

No "Sorry" needed :-) - it is still relevant to those who didn't see it first time round. And my link was to let people see what had been posted then.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

How misleading! I may just contact the woman to point that out.'Spitting feathers' doesn't come close!!

I remember looking across at my wife of 20 years and saying "Oh good this is going to raise awareness of how people with P.A. feel and need to be treated" as I'm uncertain as to whether she really understands my condition. I'd already had P.A for 25 years before we married and neither of us had ever personally know another "sufferer" as we don't particularly manifest symptoms openly.

I was registered disabled and sent on a Government re-training course along with 90 others who were variously missing visible parts of their anatomies whilst I stood there at six feet four inches, the picture of health with no bits missing - apart from two thirds of my stomach due to a perforated peptic ulcer some ten years before and I kept being asked "what's wrong with you?"

Well - I had P.A. but I didn't really know what it was and I really hoped that the Downton Abbey story would help raise awareness but sadly it fell short and as helvella says the character didn't have it anyway.

The PA Society has raised the one injection comment with the Dr who wrote this via Twitter. Asked her to follow them for latest news and info too!! Hopefully they can educate her and the next blog will be a bit more informed. Maybe she can do the CIPD app training!

I missed this article (but then I never watched Downton Abbey lol) Thanks for pointing it out Secondchance. I think as many of us as possible should comment on it as it may raise awareness of just how inadequately pa is diagnosed and treated. The joke is that some people really are just given one injection!

I left a comment on the article in Huffington Post along with two or three others but I doubt they will be picked up and a "retraction" issued.

Sadly I think you are correct in that, Clivealive, but perhaps if we all raise awareness where we can it will eventually lead to a change in how sufferers are diagnosed and treated. Well, we can hope...!
