When I was preparing for my visit with the haematologist I spent quite a while sorting out the important snippets of info in four different articles. In the past I'd found myself struggling to find the relevant bit.
As some of you may know, this was, in the end, pointless as the haematologist already knew everything about everything and couldn't be bothered listening to me. But I don't want it all to be wasted, so I thought I'd share it.
What I did was print out four articles: BCSH Guidelines, BMJ Clinical Review, NICE Treatment Guidelines, Shichting Tekort article on safety of high-dose B12. I then went through each source, annotating the important points.
I then went through, extracting the relevant paragraphs from each annotation and pasting them into a single document. I was then prepared to use this summary to quickly find the relevant part of each source.
Thank you for posting this, it will be a big help to us as ive yet more letters to write o my GP, copying in the practice manager this time & this is just what I need
Thank you. I have printed it out to take to future appointments. The only extra guidance that I might have added is the need for 2 monthly rather than 3 monthly injections where there is neurological involvement. I can't remember which document that was in though and I guess there are plenty of people who need injections even more frequently than that.
Great, well done. I find writing down in a formal letter what I plan to discuss and request from my medical professional before hand works. Perhaps if you see them again you could go along with a letter and the key points annotated in that to say I would be grateful for your response to these issues and my request for XXXXX.
