Hi, I am looking for official documents to show my doctor to convince her to give me injections. I thought I read somewhere that if a patient has been supplementing with B12, the test results should be ignored and the patient should be treated according to their symptoms, and they should be given injections. I can't find it anywhere, does anyone know where it is, or did I dream it?

I've assumed you're in the UK.
My experience has been that supplementing myself has made it extremely difficult to get the NHS to consider I have B12 deficiency. I only self treated as an absolute last resort. The GPs point to the very high levels of b12 I have and say that I have more than enough B12. I wonder if I made the right decision to treat myself and sometimes consider coming off the B12 for several months.
In my experience there are a fair number of medics who are not aware of recent documents that emphasise treating symptoms rather than just blood results.
"that if a patient has been supplementing with B12, the test results should be ignored and the patient should be treated according to their symptoms"
Think there is something similar to this in the "BCSH Cobalamin and Folate Guidelines" but I think that it refers more to patients who have received NHS injections/supplements than those who have treated themselves.
Documents I found useful
1) BCSH Cobalamina nd Folate Guidelines
Lengthy document. PAS have a summary of this in library section on website.
