Have a look at this document. Has your GP read it?

ukneqas-haematinics.org.uk/...

Look particularly at page 29 of this next document.

bcshguidelines.com/.../BCSH......

It is possible to have severe B12 deficiency with normal serum levels but some medics don't know or understand this.

I found the book"Could It Be B12" by Sally Pacholok useful.

Whoops sorry, I'm not good at links.

If you google "updated BCSH cobalamin and folate guidelines" you should find the document.

In many other European countries and Japan, Bluefaith, your B12 would be considered low and "deficiencies begin to appear in the cerebral spinal fluid below 550 pg/ml." "For brain and nervous system health and prevention of disease in older adults, serum B12 levels should be maintained near or above 1000 pg/ml." - "Could it be B12" by Sally Pacholok.

You do not say what your symptoms are but severe fatigue, numbness and tingling, etc. are neurological symptoms of B12 deficiency and should be treated without delay, as "there is a critical window of opportunity before permanent cognitive changes or injury result".

With your low ferritin and vitamin D, it may be that you are not absorbing nutrients and these links give lots of information and advice on writing to your GP for more reliable tests:

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

cmim.org/pdf2014/funcion.ph...

Cmim/BMJ document. " Summary:

* Vitamin B12 deficiency is a common but serious condition

* Clinical presentation may not be obvious thus leading to complex issues around diagnosis and treatment.

* There is no ideal test to define deficiency and therefore the clinical condition of the patient is of utmost importance."

* There is evidence that new techniques, such as measurement of holotranscobalamin and methylmalonic acid levels seem useful in more accurately defining deficiency.

* If clinical features suggest deficiency, then it is important to treat patients to avoid neurological impairment even if there may be discordance between test results and clinical features.

Severe deficiency shows evidence of bone marrow suppression, clear evidence of neurological features and risk of cardiomyopathy.

It is important to recognise that clinical features of deficiency can manifest without anaemia and also without low serum vitamin B12 levels. In these cases, treatment should still be given without delay".

Best wishes for a good outcome,

The B12def. link above gives the neurological symptoms and it looks as if you have them with the tingling etc.

I'm glad you feel better on D3. You're certainly on the right track with avoiding gluten etc., which should help IBS but you would need to make sure you're having nutrient dense animal foods but I'm still wondering whether you are actually able to absorb the B12 . Your symptoms rather remind me of Torri - whose story is at the very end of this film on B12 def.

i will look at that later thanks ,its only accasionally i get pins and needles in the night ,just put it down to laying on my hands ,it goes when i wake and move them about. i do get the accasional high pitch sound in either ear ,lasts a few seconds at any time. and wake often with cramp pain in my knees and left hip. also ,pee myself quite often ,not a lot ,but sometimes i dont even want to go and i laugh sneeze bend over or run after the dog ,i leak every day ,also hard to hang on to the other ,have to go asap . i put it down to giving birth to 5 children and big babies, and having endomyosis ,enlarged womb ,also and slight prolapse.
