Quick question with some results so far...

Hi, thanks for your offer of posting my results on here. I was contacted by the surgery today and told my ferritin level is low and to take iron for 3 months. I was advised to buy over the counter rather than prescription and just wondered if anyone has any advice or recommendations for a type of iron to take please? I have always been near to the cut off point in the past for ferritin and have taken iron EAP2 in the past, but under the help of a nutritionist. I was surprised to hear that the b12 result came back at 456, so I guess this is not really responsible for lots of my symptoms? I am really pleased to have been recommended the b12 book anyway, and have learnt such a lot from it. I will be getting a printout from the surgery soon...many thanks in anticipation...Jo

If you are iron def then you need a prescription for iron tabs, you can not just buy iron tabs over the counter, in UK, that will address a deficiency. I'd make an appointment with GP to get the right prescription to address you low ferritin, or get advice as to what the GP thinks you shoul;d buy OTC. I used Spatone over a year and my ferritin dropped, but it works for others, so they may mean that? Find out what it is the surgery thinks will help you is what I'd do,

Kind regards,

Marre.

Thanks very much Marre. The pharmacy suggested Ferrous Fumarate and I checked with Nurse about dose age. My ferritin was 12, so I'm taking 3 a day. I'll post my complete results on a new post, as you suggested...thank you:)
