Does a cold make the symptoms of PD worse? Does a person go back to "normal" after the cold is gone?

Colds do make my symptoms worse and since I take Azilect I am not able to take any cold medication. Hopefully the symptoms will get better once the cold subsides.

PD makes everything worse and vice versa! Normally you "bounce" back, but sometimes it takes great effort. I speak from my experience last year after bronchitis. Thought I'd be home bound forever! Exercise helped .

For me it is the stress that comes along with having a cold or the flu.

Like most any other stressor it exacerbates my symptoms.

Best wishes!

Agree with all, I think it is harder for those of us who take Azilect because there is so little we can take for congestion, cough etc. I have a lot of allergies which leads to sinus/ear infections, also allergy induced asthma, use asthma meds only if I have to.

I do find that using a normal saline nasal mist a couple of times a day helps reduce infections, I also take 2,000 iu of Vitamin D which is suppose to boost the immune system.

As above, any stressor exacerbates PD.

I take Amantadine as part of my drugs cocktail and that seems to prevent me getting full colds - I do get sneezes and at times a runny nose but not a full blown cold even when my partner gets a cold

I also take Azilect and was unaware of the contra indications with cold remedies - thanks for that - just as well that I don't get colds!!

I am not sure what Amantadine is, is it a over the counter supplement? Have thought about the Azilect a lot, There is so many items you can't take with it but if it help to slow the PD it would be worth it. I dk what our insurance would pay toward it. The first Nuro we went to see wanted my hubby to go on it and sinamet 3 x a day. Went to a different Nuro for a second option, and because first Doc. was so abrupt in the telling. Second Doc said forget the sinamet and azilect and take requip. Different doctors, different approaches. Requip made my hubby obsessive compulsive . Now on sinamet 3x a day and requip at night before bed, (it is suppose to make him less stiff in the morning and getting out of bed easier. Hard to tell if it helping,He had a stroke Christmas Eve, and now a cold. When I told him the consence was that colds make PD worse for a while he was grateful to hear it so Thank-you all. PD doctor says it is the stroke, stroke doctor says it is PD. We are working to get our lives back and to laugh everyday, to smile and find joy in what we can.

A cold makes a healthy person ill, why wouldn't it have an effect on your PD symptoms.

I caught a sore throat & cough Friday. I am well today. I took mega doses of Vita C.

I mean 1,000 mg with Rose hips every hour until I peed orange juice.

All better. Thank you LORD.
