If we had had International co-operation between Governments the world would not be in the mess it is now .

Since when did they ever really care about people, Truly?

I feel sure if a cure is ever found (and not only for PD) it will be held back in favour of the drug companies who must make billions in drug sales annually.

I am afraid like everything else in life nowadays illness has become a political issue as has the cost of treating it all.

I am not disagreeing with what you write but just wonder what disease has ever been cured by medical treatment except for infectious ones.? I cannot think of any can you, maybe childhood leukemia sometimes? I am really interested to hear from others. Would be so pleased if I am wrong.

You are probably right, many of the big infectious diseases have found cures i.e. TB (which of course is now becoming prevalent again)

The eradication of smallpox!

(How many laboratories I wonder carry these virulent infections as implements of warfare?)

Transplants which appear to cure a problem i.e. The chap who had a Hand Transplant last week for Chronic gout. He is cured, but not cured, as he will need to take anti rejection medication for life.

I think what will happen with most diseases is, they may find a cure but only as long as it is kept at bay by drug therapy.

The problem with that is there will always be side effects which may cause another long term problem.

I do think scientists will never know everything, at least not in our lifetime. I think the brain is so complex, so large, ( we use so little of it).

Personally I am talking as an uneducated man, it is just my own personal feelings.

Agree totally. I. Think the advances in imaging machines have been crucial. Up till recently we could only find information from dead brains. There was no way of measuring how a drug worked for instance or how the brain was responding. It made it very hard to advance treatment. Thats why I feel positive that at last we have the technology to find the answers. We shall see.

I agree because I'm realistic AND cynical when it comes to governments and big companies !! Gotta just rely on our own little selves, gang. Can't afford to be sheeps or wait for anyone else to take care of us. I think I might make a new year's resolution for a change - and just realized what it needs to be......thanks to this blog. I am declaring that my resolution is to;

Turn inward and find inner peace and turn outward to appreciate nature and use the balance to heal, heal and heal myself and all around. Bring it on 2013!

I agree with the professor with a smakk caveat that many of thes smaller researches do deliver small aids in te short term to make life easier for PwP

Were I agrew wholeheartedly is the crying beed to have Internatnioal cooperation om the assessment and proritsation of Research and therefore fundng. It is never easy to gan such coperatio because (ego's aside, politics innevitably get their grubby paws (apologies to our 4 legged companions) involved but we coud do iy i the PwO;s wanted it, ee have the Workd Parkinsom's congress in Canada in Cctober which could provide the leadership and definitely the ocassuio for scirntistd to get tgether, we have the models usef by the MIchael J Fox Founfdation and the Cure Parkinson's Trust in the UK for assessments and prioritisation

You surmise no response to mean ALL doctor researchers are not interested unless they have come up with the ideas. Really! I interpret this lack of response completely differently.
