PG Singing Group adds Christmas Twist

I saw this article today and wondered whether anyone would be interested in forming a similar Group. Of course, these groups may already exist. I know from personal experience that people who have speech problems can sometimes enjoy singing, and what is more important, can sing.

The Group are called the Parkinsons Alberta Society (PAS) Group and perform during the Christmas period in Retirement Homes. Obviously, for those of us in the UK this is a bit far to travel, but maybe the idea could be a useful platform. Not for me, I hasten to add. Everyone cringes when I sing. Even me!!!

The link is dailyheraldtribune.com if anyone is interested.

Hi Sue, Was reading about the Voice Enhancement Society just this morning in my just delivered copy of the Grande Prairie Daily Herald Tribune. Boy, was that paper boy tired! (ba- da- boom!) Actually we have a local group who call themselves the "Tremble Clefs" who meet in La Mesa, Ca. and have a great time. Gloria and I have thought about joining since they are only a few miles away. Maybe your blog will get us moving. Thanks for the "boost".

Hi there to anyone in the Sheffield area. We have a small group whose only public performances thus far have been to the Pd Sheffield branch. They seem to like our singing as we have been asked to sing at the Christmas lunch on 4 December (or maybe that's in the cost of the lunch!!)

My speech is definitely better after a session with the group and it's mostly fun anyway. The exercises our teacher Gina gives us are a great help - even though you wouldn't want to do them in public. I did once and was practising in my car - this involves screwing up your face very tightly then opening your mouth, raising your eyebrows as much as you can. After several times of doing this, the guy in the car in front gave me the finger - he thought I had been shouting at him to get a move on!

Seriously I recommend the group to anyone with Parkinson's. I can't sing a note or keep to a rhythm but that doesn't matter

Hi Jill

Wish I had a half decent singing voice. No luck so far with finding a tai chi class. Trying to build up time on my exercise bike.

Take care
