Amanadine the entire time. I have a prescription for Sinemet, but am weary of starting it. I don't know if my medications have carbidopa? Do you know if it is necessary to take something with the Zandopa or does it contain carbidopa. Please help me if you can. Thanks. Also where did you order it from?

Hello,

I can not answer your question in full, but I do know that Zandopa does not contain carbidopa yet somehow it works. Look elsewhere on this site and you will see that a lady with parkinsons takes Zandopa and a half tablet of Sinemet which does contain carbidopa with success. Mucuna Pruriens which is in Zandopa contains many other natural chemicals that synthetic Sinemet does not. Look it up on the Internet. Hope this helps.

According to Wikipedia: M.pruriens seeds contain high concentrations of levodopa, a direct precursor of the neurotransmitter dopamine. It has long been used in traditional Ayurvedic Indian medicine for diseases including Parkinson's disease.[13][14][15] In large amounts (e.g. 30 g dose), it has been shown to be as effective as pure levodopa/carbidopa in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, but no data on long-term efficacy and tolerability are available.[16]

In addition to levodopa, it contains serotonin (5-HT), 5-HTP, nicotine, N,N-DMT (DMT), bufotenine, and 5-MeO-DMT. As such, it could potentially have psychedelic effects, and it has purportedly been used in ayahuasca preparations.[17]

The mature seeds of the plant contain about 3.1-6.1% L-DOPA,[10] with trace amounts of 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), nicotine, DMT-n-oxide, bufotenine, 5-MeO-DMT-n-oxide, and beta-carboline.[18] One study using 36 samples of the seeds found no tryptamines present in them.[19]

The leaves contain about 0.5% L-DOPA, 0.006% dimethyltryptamine (DMT), 0.0025% 5-MeO-DMT and 0.003% DMT n-oxide.[20]

Thank you for the great information. So do you think that it doesn't need to be taken with carbidopa to be effective? Do you know if the m pruriens is the same thing as Zandopa? My Neurologist won't even talk about this subject. do you know any web site that can educate me on the interaction of prescription drugs and alternative medications? I'm sorry to be asking so many questions. I'm just desperate for some answers.

Taking Zandopa (made from Mucuna Pruriens, or velvet Bean) would seem to be superfuous since Levodopa is in the Sinemet or Madopar or whichever anyway. Interesting to see that the previous post says that Nicotine and Serotonin are also to be found in Zandopa. These are both alternative neurotransmitters. Taking extra of these my have undesireable consequences, maybe, for all I know?

No Nicotine is an agonist for acetylcholeine which is a neurotransmitter.

Carbidopa prevents levodopa in the Sinemet being absorbed into parts of the body other than the brain. Without Carbidopa much lager doses of Levodopa need to be taken to get a decent dose into the brain where it is needed. That much larger dose is much more likely to result in nausea. Hence the name Sinemet - Sin = without and emet meaning emetic, i.e. induces vomiting so Sinemet just means "without vomiting"

Drevy,

This is an old question. You might want to write it as a new one? I'd like to know the answer too. Are you still taking LDN? Have you seen any change?

I just stopped taking LDN about a week ago. Not by choice , but my Rx expired. I really can't say that I was better off using it.. I don't feel the benefit during the day if it benefits any of my symptoms relief.. I think that it is very suttle in helping. Sorry, I can't answer you anyway clearer.

I am going to a doctor named Dr. Alvin Stein who deals with amino acid to get you off of the PD meds. One of them is Mucuna Pruiens. It will cost me about $200-$300 monthly for the amino acids protocol, but at least I know I will getting better. They claim that this therapy may even slow down or even stop the progression of PD.

Hope this helps.
