Sinemet CR and sleep

I have recently been prescribed Sinemet CR to help with my sleep, or rather lack of it. I take 4 x Stalevo 100mg and 1x8mg Requip XL daily. I have been taking last Stalevo at about 7pm and Sinemet at about 10pm when going to bed as advised. I am still waking after about 2 hours. I know a lot of people have problems with sleeping and wondered if anyone had tried taking Sinemet when waking during the night? Or whether anyone has other suggestions, please.

  • Up until a couple of months ago I was sleeping fine, I took 15 mg ambien and slept all night. Then I started waking every hour, switched ti clonazapam, 1 mg and 1 mg ropinerole, no help. Dr said 2 mg ropinerole, no help. Now I'm trying 10 mg ambien, .5 mg clonazapam, and 1 mg roponerole not much better. It's now 4am, I'm wide awake, took a ropinerole for my legs with the only real benefit is I'll be able to walk better when I get up in a few minutes to have my morning coffee mixed with miralax. Doesn't help much either but gotta try something. No sleeping, no pooping, quit the deal we signed on for, huh?..........8)

  • Been having the same problem. I take 1 mirapexin slow release about 6am & 4 stalveo last one about 7 in the evening. But the main problem was sleep.PSD nurse proscribed half sinemet at bedtime. the next two morning after 8.30am freezing was really bad. Lack of sleep being main problem, This last week I have stopped the sinemet, take a stronger stalevo in the morning but have taken a sleeping tablet for the 1st time in my life, waking up having had a great sleep & feeling much better, took s.tablets for a week the freezing still kicks in now & again. Slept a good night last night WITH OUT a sleeping tablet . Time to see what can be done about freezing. Any ideas?

  • I am a retired pharmacist who suffers from PD. I use to make melatonin up for various patients with various strengths prescribed. Seemed to work well. Great success in cerebral palsy patients (syrup form). Unfortunately, no personal experience with melatonin.

Melatonin may help. Often overlooked by doctors. Only on script. Commercial sustained release tablet available in Australia. However, any compounding pharmacist can make capsules/syrup of various strengths if doctor prescribes it. Extract from Mayo Clinic below.

    Melatonin

There is very limited research to date for the use of melatonin as a treatment for Parkinson's disease. Melatonin was indicated as being well tolerated, but side effects may have included skin flushing, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, somnolence during the day, scotoma lucidum, and headaches. Melatonin had no effect on signs of parkinsonism or levodopa effects. Further research of higher methodological strength is needed before a recommendation can be made in this area.

  • I take a full pill Sinemet 25/100 and 2 low dose Xanax at night. I wake up for pee breaks 3x but go back to sleep immediately. Wake up around 5:45 to take my 6am meds.

  • Thanks to everyone for your, as usual, helpful comments. Much appreciated.

  • I take a 200mg of Sinemet at bed time. It reduces the tremor and I am able to fall asleep. I have been able to get as much as 6 hours of sleep.
