would depend on the mixture and dosage of meds. I find a small brandy & ginger ale is ok, or one bottle of that new alcaholic ginger beer.

thank goodness for the brandy - it is Christmas Cake time in 12 days, and they all need seasoned with 25 ml of brandy every 2 weeks until they get decorated the last weekend before.

in reply to alllowercase

I made 8 Christmas cakes this weekend I have laced them all with Rum

temptation was 1 spoonful for the cake 1-2 spoonfuls for me. 2 spoons for the cake 1234 spoonfuls for me. Unfortunately,

hic! hic! some buggers put two left feet on the end of my legs hic!

when I find out who they are, hic, I'll seperate them from their breath, hic hic hic.

I'm committed to 5 so far, which equates to about half a bottle of brandy. I cannot fathom out why the other half of the bottle seems to have evaporated every time the next dose is due. They weigh about three and a half kilos each when they come out of the oven, so about 4 when they are finished and decorated.

Anyone up for a competition, with the cakes auctioned afterwards and the money going to Parkinson's Movement?

Any alcohol makes my symptoms worse, I look very drunk as it affects my coordination and I stagger about. It's not necessarily the meds interacting as I had this problem before I was on meds.

Sharon,

Sorry to have been a stranger for a while. Qinnine is not recommended with some PD meds. For most of the time I drink our spring water & I 'wobble like a weeble' (for those who remember). I was discussing this with my PD nurse yesterday & she was not concerned. SO as I too enjoy the occasional libation I have a glass or 2 of whatever but leave it as late as possible them wobble off to bed.

It works for me!!

Hugs, Angela

Now, I have just asked my husband and he tells me that drink does not seem to affect me as much as it used to. He says I can drink more than he does without showing any affect. This, I must add, is following our holiday last week. I do not usually have more than the odd glass of wine. I wonder why this is?

shasha profile image
shasha in reply to Court

HOW ODD !

Court profile image
Court in reply to shasha

Just goes to prove not everyone is the same. I drank more than usual while on holiday, even cocktails and had no repercussions the following day. Apart from the extra lbs!! Have joined the Fat Club on PD Junction site, so here's hoping I can shift some weight.

the thing i wonder is alcohol accelerating the progress of pd?i like a few drinks at weekend andd it has no worse effects than it normally would, but whats i t doing to my brain??

shasha profile image
shasha in reply to max121272

NOTHING --- EXCEPT WHAT IT DOES TO MY BRAIN IN AS MUCH AS I CANT SEEM ABLE TO DRINK AT ALL NOW

Court profile image

I also have wondered whether alcohol has any affect on accelerating the progression of Parkinsons. I wonder if any trials have been done? I am not a heavy drinker, but do enjoy the odd glass of wine, or occasionally a vodka. I suppose a little of what you fancy ........ if we stopped everything life would not be worth living.

shasha profile image
shasha

A GOOD POINT COURT - BUT I AM PRETTY SURE IT DOESNT AND I AGREE THAT LIFE WOULD BE PRETTY DULL WITHOUT THE ODD GLASS OF WINE - I REALLY CANT DRINK EVEN A WHOLE GLASS NOW THOUGH .....

Y es I still drink wine and an occasional vodka tonic. When I have a dystonia attack and I am curled up with pain I found that a drink (small) works faster then anything to help relieve the enormous pain and stiffness. I take my pain pills and while waiting for them to kick in I swallow a bit of vodka. t sure helps take the pain away by relaxing my muscles quickly.
