PWP- person with Parkinson's

LBD- Lewy Body Dementia

MDS- Movement Disorder Specialist

I'm sure others can add to this list.

There are new people on here all the time. Can we take the extra time to explain an abbreviation? I can't (with the mind that goes with Parkinson's and medications) remember all that!!! Thank you. Is it just me???? And then I can research them also!! If you put in just LBD or MDS, you get nothing!

Blessings,

Carol

If you type in the abbreviation LBD or MDS or MSA followed by medical diagnosis links will appear.

Example : LBD medical diagnosis or LBD Dx ... both reveal links.

Carol,

Mea Culpa.

I assumed everybody was familiar with the set of initials and will in future explain the abbreviation before using it.

Hi

Abbreviations can be confusing. Most of the abbreviations you are asking about belong to Parkinson Plus, (atypical Parkinson syndrome) this has 4 olika syndromes:

MSA......Multiple Systems Atrophi

PSP......Progessive supranuclear paralysis

LBD......Lewy body demens

CBD......Corticobasal degeneratipion

PWP.....Patient with Parkinson

If you want to find out more about these syndromes, ask your Parkinson Nurse, neurologist or there is a lot of books and information on the internet

Hope this answers you question

And do't forget TLA - Three Letter Abbreviations.

PWP - person with parkinson disease, so much nicer than being a patient (actually I am quite impatient!)

MSA - multiple systems atrophy, PSP - progressive supranuclear palsy, LBD Lewy Body dementia, CBD Corticobasal degeneration.

These are some rarer forms of PD like conditions, I think that around 10% of people with Parkinson type symptoms are eventually diagnosed with one of these.

I learned in my early days with PD not to try and pattern match symptoms to any of these disorders, they are spotted through clinical observation and neurological testing, and there is a fair amount of crossover with symptoms anyway. They are quite technical terms that describe things going on in the brain. Best left to the doctor/neuro.
