Vertigo and the "inner gyroscope."

I have been having a problem with a hard-to-describe vestibular(?) disturbance or, is it PD? Anyone else feel the swimming like feeling in the head? My neurologist, who is a movement specialist, and my PCP are stumped. From what I understand vestibular problems are separate from PD. Any insights out there. I am so distressed by this as I have to walk everywhere --I am carless--and feel like I am on a drunk! :-(

I've had PD for almost 14 years and recently just started having the vertigo problems myself.

It feels like everything is spinning, but only last for a few minutes. For some reason it's the worst when I'm laying down on my left side and get up. Is this what your experiencing?

I wake up and try to get out of bed and hit the floor ! My eyeballs would move back and forth rapidly... so I would think,OK...this is it...This was before my 1-12-11 dx. and like you Maryalice I still from time to time get it in bed if I try to sleep or move my head to the left. Dr.s say vertigo and did the balance testing and hearing test which where good. If ya call walking with a cane good on a permanent vacation good ! ( I rarely drink). Now if ya read the sides of all my medicine bottles all say May cause Dizziness.

Jane, I don't drive and I would like to walk but I have not told anyone close to me that I'm too scared of freezing on a walk...I have a 3 wheel bike and do good on that ! If you find any answers I would love to know.

I don't feel it when I am lying down. It is mostly when I am standing and walking, and for some reason when I am outside and not at home. I went out for a short walk today and noticed that if I swing my arms more as I walk it isn't that detectable. Interesting. Thanks for your input, though, maryalice.

That is so interesting. One of my friends who does not have PD developed Vertigo so intense after swimming, he had to be rushed to the emergency room! The Dr gave him some type of medication and it went away in a few days...until it did, he was bed ridden!

Check your meds, I just recently had vertigo started and the motion sickness, dram-a= mine(over the counter) helps but my neupro patch seems to be the culprit when I 'm in nasty heat, (Wisconsin has had (90+ 110 heat index ) the medicine release more in the 24 hr patch, what to do I take it of for a short time when to warm, about 1 hr. replaced with cloth tape, This may not be a fix but it works for me. also I found a product tat helps the rash sometimes I get from coth tape and patch. It's called RENEW lotiion from Melaluca works great. Melalcua is an online ordering earth & home friendly products

I had a bout of bppv 3 years ago while still working. never really recovered... hence retired within a year. It can be very problematic and intermittent leaving you vulnerable at anytime.

I have had labyrinthitis, but the feeling in my head now is completely different.

I have a swimmy / pressured sensation that comes and goes, more often when I am driving or on the computer but can happen at any time.

The only time I have never had it is when I am lying down.
