Does anyone else have this problem? I am having so much problem with phlegm. Having allergy shots for years. Nasal sprays, flovent, zyrtec, now pd dr. put me on mucinex 2x day. Any suggestions?

It is bothering me more than my Parkinson's at this point.

Always in the evening or when when I sit down, I have this constant pleghm in the throat which I cannot clear, it never bothers me if I am up and about keeping busy.

I have tried all sorts of remedies except standing on my head.

coughing, in the hope I will bring up a Gold Watch or even a Piano

I think it is just one more irritating problem with the PD.

Best thing is just get on with it and try to forget it.

Thank you - you made me laugh. I feel the same way. Where could it all come from? I sometimes think I should lose 5 lbs a day - from the mucus itself. I never sit still - I am very active. I am in a choir - soprano 1 - I find it difficult to hold long notes.

Hi, you may be getting what is known as "post nasal drip". The only thing that helps me with this is Beconase Aqueous nasal spray. It takes a week or so to work fully but it does work well. Cheers!!!!!

Thank you for your help. Is that a prescription? I am already taking Flonase and

Astelin nose sprays. Please let me know. Love to hear more. Cheers !

Hello Parkie,

I too suffer from excessive mucus and I know just how annoying it is. Ive been seen by a speech therapist regarding the difficulties in swallowing and subsequently choking because of it. I have recently seen my GP again and I have been prescribed some capsules to thin down the mucus and a nasal spray to ease the swelling that it creates in the nasal passages. In addition Ive had a chest x ray because of the amount that I can at times cough up and I am also now waiting to be seen by an ENT professional.

Initially I was using Sudafed Mucus Relief which did help somewhat. If it's really bothering you which it clearly is, see your GP as I have done and get some help.

Hope this helps a little.

regards

Thank you for your help. I just was given mucinex to be taken twice a day to thind down the mucus. Also have 2 nasal sprays for the swelling. I don't know what else to do. What is an ENT professional? I would be willing to try anything Please let me know. (:

If it's post nasal drip, I found the cure was "Don't sniff, blow". I know, sounds stupid. but have had no sinus infection since I practice this. Also only one bout of bronchitis. I have another problem that bothers me worse than PD!! Hope you find an answer.

This is a long standing problem for me. I have a lot of allergies and also asthma. Over the past few weeks it has gotten worse. I always had lots of sinus infections, bronchitis and pneumonia a couple of times.

I use a nasal saline wash that does seem to keep down the number of sinus infections. I keep sugar free cough drops in my mouth most of the time. It has been really bad over the last few days to the point that I am having trouble keeping food down. I wish I had an easy answer. My MD usually has me using the mucinex which works pretty well sometimes. What I don't like is to get so bad that they have to put me on prednisone, which use to be several times a year.

I too did the allergy shots, etc. For whatever reason, when I initially started on Azilect, my allergies were not so symptomatic, but the symptoms are starting to return.

I don't know that there is a simple answer. I also have a steamer that I use a times that seems to help.

Thank you Susie01, I appreciate any suggestions I can get. I also have loads of allergies and asthma. I am going to give the steamer a try. Never thought of that - sounds great

There are MUCUS REMOVAL DEVICES that facilitate opening of airways in patients with lung diseases with secretory problems (COPD, asthma, Cystic Fibrosis).

Consult with your doctor to determine if it might be beneficial for your situation.

When my Parkinson's is off, I have difficulty swallowing. A sticky Mucous accumulates at the back of my throat, and I have a rough time horking it out. Because of this I cannot lay on my back, even for a brief time, since the phlegm sits at the entrance to my windpipe and starts to choke me. That will sometimes trigger a panic attack - very nasty. It is more debilitating than any of My Parkinson's symptoms, and I have a lot of symptoms since I've had PD for 11 years. My neuro can't seem to understand how this affects my life. I would give anything to have some control over this

Try a daily neti pot and a warm saline sinus rinse, worked for me after five years of drowning in my own phlegm, and much frustration with doctors and pills that didn't help. After two days I was 90% better, and stopped gagging. After a week I had my life back. And happy to not be taking a lifetime of meds. Odd that a doctor never recommended it, I guess that there's no money in water and salt.
