Here in the US I believe that they have approved use of the Neupro Patch. Can anyone tell me if is worth trying. I was planning on asking my Dr, to prescribe it.

I used it about 5 years ago, before it was recalled. It is worth trying.

I am on neupro 10mg a day and have found them very good. They are the only medication that don't give other side effects,

I have been on them for over a year increasing the dose very slowly.

I have good going with mine says taking pils, mine is a 6 mg good for 24 hrs, takes a while to settle in or acutally work well. I have adhesive problems and have had no problems with this patch. it is worth a try if it saves taking pills.

The patch is a dopamine agonist similar to ropinerole and with the same potential side effects, drowsiness and sleep attacks, low BP, addictive behaviour etc. In early PD may be given alone then after a time usually with sinemet (L Dopa). It is a good medication for many people. Hope it works well for you.

My husband has been on patch for years and has sleep attacks he insists are not happening , in addition to all the other dopamine agonist side effects (compulsions, no sleeping at night, manic mood swings, constant talking in circles about same thing, hostility, misperception and anger)

He loves this drug, because he believes it stops his tremor, I think delusion plays a factor in that. Dr thinks he is doing great.

Recently he totaled car falling asleep at wheel, He is lucky he didn't kill anyone.

Beware

Has anybody had problems with Amantadine? Mine interacted with Reclast, the once-a-year osteoporosis medication, and gave me hallucinations, two years in a row. We weren't sure that was it after the first year, so we took a chance the second year and it happened again.. It was terrible, you feel as if you've lost your mind. Also, my potassium was low and I've been told that contributed to it. I'm on a potassium supplement now, and everythng has cleared up. The hallucinations were terrible, because I knew rhey weren't real, yet I was seeing them right before my eyes. Talk about confusion!!! In addition to the Amantadine, my other Parkinson's meds are Mirapex and Sinemet.
