I was 180 and now 128...and loosing. Now when I go see a doctor and they hear I have

Parkinson's they seem to want to blame everything on Parkinson's or the meds.

Wish someone could supply the answer to this one. I have also put on weight and it makes me want to cry as I have always been slim. I am on Stalevo and Requip, watch what I eat and exercise and walk a lot, but still on it goes. HELP!

Yes I say it's the drugs but don't tell my PD Nurse or Consultant. I'm being referred to a clinical phsycologist they say I am putting on weight because I am less mobile I have went from 9st 13lbs to 16st and they don't give a damn. I think they think we are brain dead and I have got a heart condition so this weight isn't good for me. It's my legs that are bad MY walking is so slow and are so painful. Where can we turn to

The easiest thing in the world is to put the blame on something we are not sure of.

I was gradually putting on weight because I got bored in the evenings, irritable with myself because I could not do the walks I enjoyed daily. (An extra slice of toast at supper time)

In the end you have to come to terms and decide where diet is going wrong, I have read that there could be some weight gain with medication, but I would imagine not a lot.

I think we just perhaps take in too many calories, which as we slow down we do not use up.

hence the weight gain. ( I am not saying this is same for everyone) but I do believe it happens in the majority. So far I have lost nearly two stone by cutting back eating.

Limiting myself to two treats a week, Fish and chips one week, and a cream cake the opposite week. Wednesday morning an Apple pie.

It is like living in the 50s again when we only got treats at Christmas.

I do confess I feel better for some weight loss.

I lost 30 pounds when I got off Requip. I am exercising more sort of, but have Gi problems. so not motivated to overeat.

I gained a lot of weight the first several years on PD meds. My meds were changed. I started loosing about 1-2lbs a month. After almost 2 years I've lost @35lbs. Because of feeling better I'm able to exercise more. The more I exercise the more I can exercise.

I also had a problem where I felt full after a very small meal and stayed that way most of the time.

I now no longer get that full feeling (have no idea why the change) and have gained a few pounds, so guess I'm now going to have to pray self control "kicks in". :)

The only meds change is that I am now off of Nexium...but have been using it longer than PD meds.

My husband was diagnosed with PD in 2007 and didn't gain weight until he had to retire in June 2009 and became less active. He then became hooked on sugar - candy, cookies, etc. and gained weight. Within the last few months, his weight has started dropping - he went from 220 to 204 in just over a month and is still losing. He is no longer eating all the sweets and his appetite has dropped considerably. Don't know why! He gets little exercise and takes all his meds (Sinemet, Mirapex, etc.) so I can't believe his meds are doing it. Guess everyone is different......

I can't eat breakfast because it gags me. i have put a lot of weight on jn the past couple of years. Constipation is also a problem. I have just started taking leva=dopa and my doc said it should speed up my metabolism. I am generally quite healthy but sometimes apathy sets in. I have also lost a lot of my sense of smell and taste. Does he like spicy or strong flavoured food?
