Panic Attacks & Anxiety!

My poor Mom is suffering tremendously from this every day and sometimes all day. GP doesn't want to prescribe more meds, says she needs to learn to "deal with it naturally". Ideas?

I ran into the same problem myself. My GP, my pain management doc all wanted me to deal with the anxiety and panic attacks on my own. They don't want you to become addicted to the medication. I say who cares if we become addicted. i want to be able to live my life as normally as possible. Besides its not like we are going to get better. I finally went to see a psychiatrist who prescribed Ativan for me which I take on a as needed basis. Something you might want to check in to. I also am seeing a therapist on a weekly basis. It is quite helpful to talk to someone who is neutral and sees me and my life in a different light.

Good Luck and I hope you find your Mother some help.

Thank You for caring for your Mother. I know it is difficult and I want you to know I appreciate it.

I did the same. The psychiatrist also added Paxil which helps with anxiety too.

Panic attacks are horrible. I struggled and suffered for a few years and know how hard it is just to function some days. I tried several antidepressants and finally Zoloft I could tolerate. But getting off of it was really a horrible experience. There are many things one can do to help control anxiety. Diet- berries are wonderful. The more pigment the more beneficial. Blueberry season is coming up in a few weeks. My husband and I go to a bb farm every year and pick our two buckets full. A nice soak in an epsomesalt bath. Soaking your feet can help too. Yoga some kind of exercise. Just keep moving. The more exercise one does the more the body makes dopamine which is good. Maybe chang up her diet. Has she ever gone to talk to someone about her problems? Talking to other people is helppful. I hope she gets better. Good luck. There are lots of informative web sites. Hopefully you will find one that works for you.

Relaxation cds, music, reflexology, yoga but a few, but difficult whatever to solve without help. Drugs work I am sure but only short term and another drug for your system to cope with xx Good luck

I suffered badly from anxiety and panic attacks. I take 300mg Pregabalin daily and it is very helpful. It's an off label use.

See a psychologist or psychiatrist asap. There is NO need to suffer like this.

We need a PD retreat! So we can talk about our drug issues in a safe environment. Short term, covered by insurance or Medicare. Of course it would be too cost effective so it'll never happen.

I am on Xanax again. I was on it previously and just decided to stop one day about a year ago and I had no withdrawal at all. I am back on it now to help me get to sleep (and stay asleep for more than 3-4 hours at a time).

Get a new GP! In this day and age we should not have to suffer. LIfe is very short. She is walking a difficult path and could use all the help she cna get. The doctor should not deprive her of peace.

I appreciate your comments and concerns and I'm so sorry to hear that you suffer from this type of panic attack. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to deal with this. We will continue to work on ways to help my Mom - she is doing a little better, but still has PA's almost every day.
