Hello friends:

I'm looking for information on diet while taking sinemet. Is anyone aware of books with solid advice on what and when to eat while taking sinemet 4 times per day. Any advice on foods to avoid? Thanks

I have found a low protein, healthy diet has worked best for me. I also take Sinemet 4 times per day.

First you need to be drinking at least 64 oz of water a day. Then you won't have to worry about a low protein meal.

Second, get plenty of exercise.

Third, take, if possible, your Sinemet on an empty stomach with some of the 64 oz of water. Remember, Parkinson's acts different in each person. what works best for one is not necessarily the best for another. WATER, WATER, WATER!!!!

Oh no, another reminder to drink water! :(

I start drinking a lot of water, forget and begin again when reminded.

Thanks! :)

Rule of thumb, one hour before a meal or two hours after, especially if the meal has protein in it. Sinemet and protein use the same receptors in the gut. To get the maximum effect from your meds take as above.

For this reason I eat a little protein with every med. I want to minimize the effect from my med. Then I can move without dyskinesia.

Why not change the dose then?

Doc says I'm on the minimal dose (?)

With PD I am also dealing with diabetes and a serious thyroid problem so what to eat is a very touchy subject. I try to tink what is good and right for me...but times I want a treat I follow the golden rule of less is best...a small bite or taste and not a whole pice of cake or bowl of ice cream....I don't want to always hear hat I cannot have....that is so defeating...just saying...Casey in NH

I take stalevo but its the same thing.

7am first dose when that kicks in I eat preferably something light then next dose at 9.30

Lunch either at 12 before next dose at 1pm or after when kicked in

Tea after last dose has kicked in at 5pm

Try taking sinemet with fizzy pop, half a glass is ok

I you wear off at any time try this

2 spoonfuls of instant coffee, one of sugar.

half a cup of hot water

have a couple of mouthfuls (its horrid ) then rest, feet up

I find that works a treat to bring me back on.

Cheap caffeine drinks also help. Dont need much just a glass when needed.
