Here is an article I found on the Michael J. Fox Parkinson site. I think this could be good news for those of us that take our med every few hours.

Looks good ... except I am paranoid about using an agonist. I just "know" I would be in the 22% that experience compulsive behaviors :(

It sure would be nice not to have a lot of off time.I think it would be worth a try.If you get compulsive behavior you can always stop using it, Sometimes my meds make me feel like I am drunk but it sure is better than not being able to function.

This is good news at last for the US.

The patches are already available in UK and Europe. You may find posters here who have been using them for a few years.

I have being on the Nupro patch for 3 years and can only confirm that they work .Only snag is the patch can cause skin problems if you don't rotate the area of use.

Looks like something to get excited about. Helps PD and RLS, wow. :)

Will the patch be all that is needed, or will we still need to take other meds?

hmmm. I am tempted because of how horrible my legs feel at bedtime. I take other controlled substances that do not have the bad effects the agonists have. But I wish I didn't have to.

Thank you for the info, Brooke. This is encouraging! Maybe this is exactly what I need. I'm having a difficult time finding the right meds that do not wear off between dosages.

Thanks again!

Cheri :)

Glad I was able to help with the info. I also have a problem with meds wearing off I am hopeful. God Bless. Keep a good thought.

.

Neupro patch is a dopamine agonist drug like ropinerole and Mirapexin. Unfortunately all dopamine agonists potentially have the same side effects.

The patch is used in the same way as other agonists. That means the patch may be used alone especially for early treatment then if symptoms are not controlled adequately other medication will be added, usually L-Dopa (Sinemet, Madopar or Stavelo).
