Can Our Meds Give Us The Shakes?

Sometimes it seems like I get tremors 'n shakes after I take my carbidopa/levodopa. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi Joealt, yes I get tremors after taking my meds for a short while. It may be the brain adjusting to the "invasion" of foreign matter, I'm not sure but it is better than not taking the meds and being "off" for ages. If I did not take my meds on time I would be a wreck

I never had any tremors....the first meds my dr put me on was requip....made me shake tremor..even pass out stopped takin it....'

my old doctor over medicated me and had me taking the carbidopa/levodopa, every HOUR . I could not sit still, i rocked and rolled and no music what so ever. anyhow, i am back to 4 hours and no shakes or rocking for me.

yes, I believe they do. I noticed that i get the shakey feeling inside my body. It's really weird too-but I know its from the meds. Of course when I get nervous, stressed or startled my left arm does get a good tremor, It stopps after a few minutes

My neurologist explained it like this: There is a small window. Too little Ldopa and you have a tremor; too much Ldopa and you have a tremor. When you first take Cdopa/Ldopa you haves too much in your system. You might try cutting back by half a pill and see if it helps.

Yes of course ...... The over abundance of dopamine in our brain when it his used to hardly any causes this reaction. Try taking smaller doses of sinemet at a time but maybe more frequently. You are your own neuro...... only you know what you are feeling! There is no magic formula that world for all of us!

Yes, I also have this problem and have found answers in some of the comments above. Even when I have no tremor, I am prone to developing one shortly after taking my meds. I have always wondered why and now there appears to be an answer. Thank you.

The "shakes" CAN be caused by antiparkinson medication. It is referred to as dyskinesis by the PD medical world (so they can justify the big bill! - only kidding)

But seriously, a neurologist specializing in movement disorders should be able to help you reach the right medication level to minimize symptoms.

My mom has that same problem!!!!!! Everyone just looks at me like I'm crazy when I tell them it's her med's. She takes 25/100 Carbidopa/Levodopa and an hour or so later she shakes so bad she needs assistance to go to the bathroom. That's not always the case but it seems the less she gets the better she does mentally and getting around. She gets more stiff but get's around better.

I have head PD for 3 years but I’m not on meds yet. I’ve tried other sources and recently lowered my thyroid medicine through a natural doctor. Amazingly my shakes have slowed although they are still there.I am hoping. My next. Labs show I can lower the thyroid medication even more next time.
