Azilect - When do you take it?

My mom was taking azilect with her second dose of sinemet then she switched to rytary and took it with her first dose of rytary.

Now she is back on sinemet (rytary side effects were too much) and taking azilect with second sinemet dose but that leads to lots of dyskinesia about 3 hours later.

Thinking about moving rytary to third sinemet dose of the day which would be 3:30 or fourth dose at 7:30 before bedtime.

Anyone take azilect later in the day?

I take it first thing in the morning. My understanding is it preserves your dopamine and prevents it from being broken down as quickly, so taking it first thing in the morning makes sense to me.

I’m the same as Janers. In the morning.

As I understand it, it doesn't make much difference when you take rasagiline.

Rasagiline is a MAO-B inhibitor, which as janers says slows the breakdown of dopamine.

Rasagiline itself has a fairly short half-life of about 2.5 hours. But, this is not particularly interesting because what matters is that its effect lasts long after the rasagiline has been removed from the body. After stopping rasagiline the half-life of the inhibition is said to be 6 - 40 days.

See the paper by Freedman et al., 2005.
