Hyaluronic acid, also called hyaluronan or hyaluronate is a gel-like substance that is naturally present throughout the human body. In the joints, natural hyaluronic acid has several functions, including:

Several years ago a member of my family developed pain in his knees which created problems doing physical activities. His doctor administered a series of hyaluronic acid injections into his knees which practically eliminated pain however doctor warned that it is only for temporary relief. Fortunately, we came across some oral hyaluronic acid supplements and by trial and error found very effective one. It's now been a few years since those shots and as long as hyaluronic acid is supplemented there is hardly any pain!

Can you name the one that worked, specifically brand, maker, form (oral or injected) enough so that other people can find them?

It is liquid Hyaluronic Acid by Professional Formulas. In our case it works very well as long as it's taken consistently - half dropper 3x day, although there are some drawbacks - high price, taste (somewhat bitter) and two of the inactive ingredients may contain GMOs . Here is the link where we order it online:

Hi Kia,

I have used Hyaluronic Acid (HA) for degenerative disc disease (DDD). I found efficacy at 300 mg /day for DDD. Up until about 10 or 12 years ago, oral HA was thought to be useless, but as you will see as you read newer studies about HA, oral HA is useful. It also has topical uses. Here is what I used :

I had ET for almost 30 years before it morphed to PD (dx 6 years ago ) During this time I had (among other things) voice problems. Listening to a radio show (about 15 or 20 years ago) talking about hyaluronic acid it was suggesting that HA (for joints) might also help "smooth out" your voice. So I tried their "free offer" - After about 2 weeks I thought (and friends noticed) a vocal difference. I take 1 a day (they suggest 2) - Purity. I also notice a difference in voice when dehydrated .

Can you say more explicitly what form, brand, mfr., sales outlet so that others can track them down please.

Purity Products - capsule - H.A. Joint Formula. 100 mg of HA from bio cell Collagen extract olive extract -- 5-loxin - bought from radio years ago and now buy directly 1 / day - suggested dose is 3. Again, most common use is for joints - but in that initial ad I tried their "free offer" - they (as an aside) mentioned that some felt it helped the vocal chords). At the time I was intermittently losing my voice so I thought - "Why not?" After about 2 weeks, I noticed a difference and have been using it ever since. If I don't use to for several days, voice problems come back. I also find there is a relationship between when I am dehydrated, and how my voice performs.

40 years ago Hyaluronic acid (HA) was the latest miracle. We were injecting horse knees and seeing lame track horses made sound. Initially injections were into the joint. Then it was found the intramuscular injections worked just as well. Then oral versions came available. When the root problem is arthritis HA is a band aid, It helps but is not a cure. I injected myself IM for achilles tendinopathy but didn't see a lot of improvement. Plus it REALLY stung.
