Rasagiline (Azilect) savings

If you are in the US and taking rasagiline (Azilect) you know it is very expensive. I checked prices and found that just about every pharmacy is charging the same price for this medication except Sam's club with the Plus membership. I saved so much it more than paid for a year of my Sam's Plus membership in less than two 90 day refills. It is even a big savings over my Medicare Supplemental insurance mail order pharmacy.

How much do you pay?

$149.38 for 90 days of 1mg. This is for generic Rasagiline. Let me know if you have found a better price.

$468 for the exact same at my Sam’s club. That’s crazy!

Do you have the Sam's Plus membership?

No but you can look up the price online. I can get 30 for that price but not 90

Are you sure that is the 90 day and not the 30 day. Our 30 day price is $156.05 and $468.15 for 90.

It is a sad fact that Medicare part D drug "insurance" does not necessarily result in the cheapest drug prices. In general, the Costco pharmacy has very good prices.

That's incentive to keep working as long as possible where insurance covers a 30 day supply at $7 for the patient.

That's pretty interesting information about the pricing with the Plus membership. And we pay into the Medicare Supplemental program but have not benefited from it so far.

I also have a prescription for Latisse. The generic version (bimatoprost) is also a lot cheaper with the Sam's club Plus membership. We have a few other prescriptions that are cheaper with our Medicare Supplemental pharmacy - OptumRx.

My neurologist said it improves the effectiveness of carbidopa-levodopa. It helps avoid side effects of increasing dosage of carbidopa-levodopa. Just watch your blood pressure as it can either increase or decrease blood pressure. Weird I know. Also you cannot take Cyclobenzaprine or St. John's Wort with Rasagiline.

I am in Canada. Recently diagnosed, this was the first drug prescribed for me. This was not one of the drugs that my drug plan covered. It would have cost me over $200 per prescription. The authorization form was sent to my neurologist to fill out for the drug company to consider. I was instead put on Selegiline. Day 3. So far, so good.

I order mine from Planet Drugs Direct; 100 generic pills for $82.

I tried to go to this site and got a warning that the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) includes this site on its Not Recommended list. I thought maybe it was because they are not in the US, but there are other Canadian pharmacies on their recommended list. Does anyone know anything about this?

I've been ordering from them on and off for years. You need a prescription, and when I ordered Rasagiline for the first time, they even cautioned me that it may not mix well with another medication I am taking for something unrelated to PD. I checked the NABP website but all I could find was "Planet Drugs has not been reviewed by NABP. " The CIPA site cipa.com/certified-safe-onl... does list Planet Drugs as safe and certified.

Update - Sam's Club just increased my $149 rasagiline prescription (90 pills) to $585, even for Sam's Plus members. So I am back to Costco for $238.20 for the same prescription.
