It's true. I know someone who gambled away 25000 Euro and blamed the mirapex although if you knew Jim, I think mirapex was the fall guy.
But it is a well documented real problem, and I resisted starting the drug and discussed the issue energetically with my neurologist.
She pointed out that whilst the risks are real, as with so many side effects they affect only a small number of people and the rest who don't suffer from them benefit enormously.
I would appear to be one of the rest.
dangerous stuff..you need a serious caregiver if you on this stuff. and yes your right it doesnt hurt everyone but i sure hate rolling the pill dice every day....
Swelling of legs and narcolepsy are two side effects I have experienced.
Not many have this problem. Surely the patient should be told of this possible side effect and the practitioner monitor it as well. Our neurologist has taken patients off it for this reason, not many. For my husband, it turned his life around. His first diagnosis was Lewy Body dementia in 2013. He was put on levadopa, which changed nothing. He was attending the Movement Disorder Clinic at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia. One of the neurologist suggested trying the Neupro patch, as "he'd seen it work". Within a couple of months he was back to normal mentally and has been until last year, when it appeared to stop working. The neurologist's comment "I've seen it work, but not like this".
I read somewhere recently that they are wondering if maybe they can predict who is likely to have this addictive problem.
We started my husband on Mannitol three months ago and the same thing has happened, no extreme apathy, no fogginess or dizziness. He has his life back again.
I am so thankful for this site.
