HOW ABOUT A CEASE FIRE?

Let's see if we can all agree to upgrade the tenor of this forum.

When we disagree with someone, let's keep the discussion on the issue, not the person. If someone says something which you feel is ill-informed or wrong, we do not add to our collective well-being by denigrating the person.

I have, myself, made a number of assertions which turned out to be false and will undoubtedly do so in the future and fortunately they've all been corrected.

I've even said some stupid things and will again. I'm 74 years old and if I had a nickel for every stupid thing I said in my life, I'd have a quarter.

It doesn't matter who's smarter. It's not a contest.

We can attack the content, not the person.

I owe all of my good health and everything I know to the people on this forum.

Thank you, thank you.

What's brought this on Marc? I haven't noticed anything since "Le grand Con" and his little anti-communist tirade, and both of us were robust enough to cope with his nonsense, and he just made himself look thoroughly unpleasant.

Of course, I support the idea of playing the ball and not the man - but all seems to have been quiet on the Western Front recently.

BTW - if you want to show off and use the posh term, its "ad hominum" ;-)

Perhaps it's an unnecessary thread. Read bepo's threads and let me know what you think.

If you think this thread is more harmful than helpful, I'll delete it.

WinnieThePoo in reply to MBAnderson

Ah Bepo. I'm not sure we are of one mind here. I saw her apology thread but hadn't the willpower to do more than skim it. She promotes some strange ideas as "truth" on risible evidence.

I don't think complaining about conspiracy theories being aggressively promoted is playing the man. It's objecting to the content.

And whilst I am wary of censorship too, there is a need to stay on topic (Parkinsons disease) and avoid promoting anti-establishment propaganda without robust evidence. People tire of futile arguments with the promoters of this nonsense, and yet to leave it unchallenged is to tacitly endorse it . And a lot of people readily believe internet material without questioning its provenance.

Suppose I start a thread reposting propaganda from right wing gun groups. It has no place on the forum, and one would hope the mods would remove it.

We may have to agree to differ.

I'm fine with that. Seems to be a majority opinion.

Well said Winnie. The topic should be PD related. If about Covid-how it relates to PD, etc. I like Marcs reply as well.

"ad hominum." I've always wanted to use that word.

Well Marc, use "ad hominem" then... it will sound even better ;-)

Disagree with the content is much as you want, but leave the ad hominem attacks out. (I feel better now, having said it.)

I read it. I would suggest that if someone wants to get into a back and forth with personal attacks, to respectfully ignore it. It will happen again. Unfortunately some people just have the habit of trying to make an argument through personal attacks. I doubt this post will change that, although it’s a good reminder.

Very well expressed! I know I try to be careful with answering, and sharing my thoughts! Like you, MBAnderson, this forum is like a lifeline, for me! I wouldn’t purposely try to put anybody or their ideas down, like stating bluntly they are wrong! Personal attacks on people, is harmful for their well-being, and this is not the place to do it. It does seem like a few of the texting commentaries, I have read here, reveal people, that have gotten upset, about a comment someone made, and they retort back, attacking the person, personally. I recall one recently, that I read! This is a rarity, though, but, still, I can see why you would like us to all agree to upgrade the tenor of the forum. What I don’t want to see, is our Parkinson’s Movement forum/blog friends, become discouraged by the disagreements texted, by some, and then quit contributing to the forum, communicating their ideas, needs, advice etc. Keeping the discussion on the issue, not the person, is wise! Wishing you the best!

bepo, I respect and admire the passion and commitment you bring to your positions and you have always been careful not to say disparaging things to those who disagree with you.

As much as the others have dumped on you, you should be commended for always taking the high road. Good for you.

For me, there is just too much in your post that isn't and cannot be verified.

Bill Gates had a much more probable chance of controlling the world thru the software Microsoft develops for many various platforms than he does through vaccines.

The likelihood that Bill Gates is trying to take over the world through vaccination is one issue I must confess to having a closed mind on. Even if park_bear agreed with you, I wouldn't believe it -- and that's saying something.

If only you devoted all that knowledge and capability to therapy, you could relieve many of us of our tremor.

bepo, I suggest you send this stuff to me via private message, for fear you you may be tarred and feathered and run out of town.

On 2nd thought, don't send it to me private message. I believe I said twice now my mind is closed to believing Bill Gates is up to no good.

I've said even if Bill Gates himself and Park bear got on a conference call together and both assured me it was true, I would not believe it.

So you've made your case. Let's leave it at that?

Marc,

I prefer to make my own decisions on what I read or don't read on this forum. It's very simple, if I don't like what I am reading, I stop reading it and move on and make a mental note to myself for future reference. I don't need anyone else to make that decision for me or to try and make that decision for me as I am fully capable of making that decision on my own, as are the other members of this forum!!!

Sometimes I may not be in full agreement with a post, but I like having out of the ordinary or unusual ideas presented that can push my norms to new levels and ideas. It can add creativity and make me do research which ultimately means that I can learn more. Keeping the status quo can sometimes be boring, so a little "unusual" can sometimes add interest or at a minimum, make me think more.

I realize this is a PD forum and that always remains the main topic of conversation, but there are many ideas out there that can one way or another be of value for PWP and these can sometimes be of use, so a little latitude is useful as long as there is some relevance to PD or to PWPs.

In the time of sars-covid-2,

"I've seen things you humans don't even imagine ..."

Government websites , in Italy, indicate that ozone can act as a disinfectant of the virus in environments and others government website like fake news.

salute.gov.it/portale/news/...

French health ministers cite hybridupofen and anti-inflammatories as the cause of aggravation of the virus. First confirmed then denied by the WHO and denied by the European drug agency.

euronews.com/2020/03/18/cor...

So everyone can make a mistake a good dose of humility may be needed by everyone. I cite an example of the Italian Nobel Prize in physics Rubbia C. who, when asked if extraterrestrials exist, simply replied very seriously: "we don't know".

IMHO science and research always starts with a doubt, "I don't know" it's the first step towards knowledge. Without this humble first step there would be no progress.

I think it's important to keep in mind that Bepo does not have Parkinsons. To me that's like living on a different planet. I wake up in the morning and if I happen to have been lucky enough to have my night time awake interval late I have perhaps taken a extended release C / l and I'm relatively functional otherwise getting to the bathroom is a challenge. I shuffle I try not to get my left leg thigh muscle irritated or it will seize up and I will have a very hard time just sitting to pee. I have not so far had to resort to standing in the shower and peeing but I have had to stand up several times to get the muscle to unclench so that I'm not in agonizing pain and at the same time trying to pee. I take an immediate release C/l hoping that will kick in and at the same time I have to feed the darn cat who does not understand that getting in front of my feet all the way to the kitchen is a health hazard for both of us. Before I get to the kitchen I try to open the living room curtains so I can actually see and get the hit of daylight. The cats a big help in this. After I feed the little bugger I'm free to get some coffee which usually will help kick the meds into working. (Later in the day when they aren't working I resort to jumping dancing around my living room, seems to help get the blood going and get the meds to kick in.)

Don't worry gang I'm not going to take you through my whole tedious day. Most of you have your own tedious days you go through. Besides my meds just went off for some stupid reason. I mean come on! Couldn't you at least have lasted for an hour and a half, what is up with that shit?!

I have found people's conspiracy theories to be a dark cloud in an otherwise clear sky so I believe there would be a better forum for them but I am not the guardian of all that is sensible, that's for sure! So I'm going to try to delete them instead of reading them, I think that will help my brain and mood.

Enidah, I have watched your struggle and the determined struggle of others and I gain strength and say to myself if they can do it so can I. The trees here are only now opening their buds and small leaves are showing . There must be a thousand shades of green.

You very well may be the Guardian of all that is sensible, no one else is.

For the most part I lean against censoring posts except for the occasional snake oil scams or rude, snide remarks made by a couple forum members.

This might be the only forum on the internet where requesting that the posts be broadly on-topic is considered an afront to people's inalienable human rights.

Conspiracy theory rants about vaccinations and coronavirus serve absolutely no positive purpose for people coming here looking to have discussion about or actionable information on parkinsons disease.

There is no actionable (or accurate, for that matter) information in these threads that focus on bill gates or dr fauci or joe exotic or whoever. The claim that these covid conspiracy theory threads are on topic becuase PWP could

get covid is like saying that threads about imminent alien invasions would be on topic because the poster saw on YouTube that these specific aliens are going to eat the PD patients FIRST. "Research it. It's true. Google has been paid by the aliens to delete the info. The truth is out there but it's hard to find. I will send it if I can find it. By private message, though, because whilst i want to alarm everyone with my claims, I am only willing to provide the proof to a select few."

Similarly, for vaccines, how does arguing about vaccines for kids have ANYTHING to do with PD? Is it useful info for all of those PWP that were diagnosed at 6 months old?

If there is SPECIFIC CREDIBLE information that suggests that a specific chemical in a vaccine that poses a specific threat to PWP, then yeah, l want to hear about it. But that is LIGHT YEARS away from what happened on this forum, which has been " watch vaxxed. Its real science that big pharma paid Google to delete"

If there is SPECIFIC credible information on how PWP can avoid COVID, or perhaps what additonal symptom severity/ mortality PWP might endure, then that is relevant to PWP. Unhinged rants about Bill Gates, Dr Fauci and big pharma hold NO VALUE for PD management.

Hi Mark, good post , worthwhile. It takes a real, trained and experienced politician to debate the various topics and still not get personal or angry at some of the remarks because they do often have consequences. Restraint is some times difficult when for example someone is telling mothers to not have their children vaccinated against terrible deseaces that I lived through, Polio and Scarlet Fever for example .

But there also comes a time to stand up for what we believe is right or wrong and at that point it is almost bare knuckle fighting with some. People are different everywhere but locations also have distinct clusters of thought that are not shared by other locations.

I used to see this in our local newspaper ( which is no more). A local man who wrote weekly expounding on his religion and the glory of God as it related to some local news or event. This then always resulted in a response from another weekly corespondent who very much disagreed. They argued for over 20 years and never resorted to personal attacks. They were better men than me .

Arguing, debating theories; some people release seratonin that makes them feel better by having a good fight. Maybe that makes bepo happier than the actual conspiracy theory facts she posts. You respond and she comes back. Personally, I am a flaming liberal, but also so tired of arguments, I give my permission to you can remove her posts. I choose peace rather than a fight in my last days. (I'm not sick, just tired.)
