Dealing with stress

I was diagnosed with PD about 14 years ago - until recently things have been pretty constant. Recently I found out I had a heart condition which required open-heart surgery, which I received and seems to be successful. I was in the hospital about 8 days, and when they sent me home I found out we were being attacked by the Coronavirus I've had to quarantine myself in my tiny apartment here in Bangkok. (I've only left for an hour in 7 weeks - talk about stir crazy!)

Luckily I've got the sweetest, most giving, hardest working. happiest caregiver in the world. She's also my wife of 12 years, and the love of my life. A week ago she told me she wanted a divorce, I really didn't see that coming. She's just left me to be on my own for a week while she does something which is "none of my business".

The stress is taking a toll on me. I'm lonely, sad, nervous, angry. and full of self pitty. My LDopa meds aren't lasting as long as before, PD symptoms are getting worse and I barely sleep. I'm full of fear, and am overly emotional.

How do I deal with this?

Sorry this hit you at such a stressful time anyway. I went through a similar thing 17 yrs ago and I'm actually much better now. My husband left me after 17 yrs of marriage right as I was diagnosed with Parkinson's so I think that's what brought the Parkinson's out. I didn't see that coming either. I was young (younger) then 46 so I just decided to stay by myself for a couple years and then I found most wonderful man there ever was and I found Rock Steady boxing to help with my Parkinson's. I've had my ups and downs with my Parkinson's but overall I feel better now than I did when I was first diagnosed. I also had breast cancer during that time. There is hope for you. I just hate that you have to go through this at the same time of this virus thing going on. Just try to keep moving & talk to a friend or two to keep you positive. Go to rocksteadyboxing.org & read some of the testimonials You might want to start that after the virus is over. Keep fighting and try to stay positive. I know it's tough but you can do it! Keep well and keep fighting! 🥊🙏

Thanks laglag. I'm in Bangkok and most of my friends have left because of the virus. I couldn't leave because of my operation, so I'm getting a little lonely. But I just discovered online meetings to an organization to which I belong. That should be helpful!

Try yoga nidra meditation. You can access videos on you tube. It is a guided meditation and is very relaxing. I have been doing this for a little over a week (unfortunately not every day. Sometimes my tremor is too strong to focus). When I do this practice, I feel lasting results - reduced tremor, sense of relaxation for extended period of time. After my last 20 minute mediation I went the whole afternoon in a relaxed almost tremorless state. I wish you peace and health during this crazy time.

I suggest you accept the end of that particular chapter in your life, sign the divorce ASAP, shed the deadweight, and count your blessings.

Then move to Chiangmai (more ‘chill’, less expensive than Bkk), place an ad for another ‘house-helper’, and get moving on the next bigger/better chapter.
