These 2 drugs are absolutely NOT similar in chemical structure although both contain levodopa. Nor are they similar in available doses. Modopar has 2 dose combinations; sinemet has 3 plus a controlled release formulation.

Are they interchangeable? Some who have used both say yes; some say no.

They both contain levodopa, and should be equivalent, but I got GI problems with Sinemet, and not with Madopar, (Actually I take the Canadian version, called Prolopa, which is in capsule form, and has two strengths, 25/100 and 50/200. The Movement disorder clinic I attend, suggested not using the higher dose capsule due to “Absorption problems”) I started with a slow dose and slowly increased until it took effect.

They aren't equivalent drugs. Never meant to be. Two different approaches in attempting to force more levodopa out of the PNS into the primary CNS.
