Vit.B1 side effect.

I am taking vit.b1 in the form of injections because oral intake has caused rectal inflammation. Unfortunately the same problem has recurred. Is there anyone out there who has the same symptons?

No! No! You don't take the oral capsules through your rectum. You swallow the capsule.

I hope that you are either joking or being sarcastic or snarky, Roy. I can’t tell. The poor guy is obviously suffering with a huge side effect and we have to be careful with our comments and considerate.

Apparently after the recent act at Germany’s Got Talent where one contestant ingested sausages through her rectum, anything’s possible!

I have not heard of this issue before, but it sounds similar to people who have reported a rash and were not able to work around it through dose adjustment or by using injections in which case, unfortunately, it sounds like you will not be able to use B-1.

in reply to chartist

Dose adjustment revisited. I did not have good results reducing dose. Now, this week I am going without B1 for the week. After a week I will start again at a lower dose.

Despe profile image
Despe in reply to

Roy, please keep us posted. Perhaps you need a long break as your body is saturated with B1, IMHO.

If you had bad results reducing why are you stopping then reducing again? Wouldn’t you increase? Are you reducing because of bad effects?

in reply to LAJ12345

Reduction alone did not improve symptoms

LAJ12345 profile image

Had they become worse on the high dose?

Have you thought of trying Hardy’s daily essential nutrients. Maybe there is some other nutrient you are short of too now since your thiamine appears to be all topped up? Surely worth a try? It seems unlikely you could be so short of thiamine yet not deficient in anything else.

Thank you Arte for your interest. Dr. Fancellu advised me to try switching products; for injections Tiamina SALF or Tiamina Ratiopharm; for tablets Biovea. I'm using Benerva.

well its good to have a good laugh once in awhile but then again im not sure were the capsules went did they go north or south.

in reply to justjohn46

I guess the answer is obvious. In this forum the reaction is very negative if anyone says anything bad about B1. That is my perception.

The only caveat is that they will take all of the credit if you have positive results and blame you for anything that goes wrong.

I am glad that the snarky response was taken sportingly. That being said, I truly feel bad for you and wish you the very best and a speedy recovery. I had an uncle who died of colorectal cancer and I am aware of the terrible complications that can occur.

Whose merit and for what?

The discovery belongs to the person who makes it, if it is confirmed.

Recently, someone with a sense of pitiful irony falsely used the name Art and tried to slander Dr. Costantini about the causes of his illness and about b1. Certainly not something in favor and in the worst style of the web. The b1 has been heavily criticized in the past here on HU and like all things popular there are people in favor and people against.

But hatred had never entered between us and I'd like it to stay that way.

As usual , Gio, you say it well and accurately also!!!

To GioCas:

I don’t have any hatred for anyone here in this forum. How did you come up with that conclusion? Please let me know if I did something wrong and I will apologize profusely for any and all transgressions.

in reply to Gioc

To GioCas:

Yes. You are correct, Dr. Costantini deserves full credit regardless of whether the protocol is proven or not.

Gio I don’t want to disparage anyone and I have the deepest sense of gratitude for the work that Dr. Costantini has done in this field. Please don’t misinterpret or misunderstand me.

Too bad that it did not work for me because I experienced very high blood pressure. I noted that fact in another comment and Art called me out on that and effectively blamed me for not reading the “fine print” or disclaimer if you will. I was at fault? I wasn’t blaming anyone and I just cautioned the other member who had asked the question about side effects and I cautioned him about it.

I asked Roy whether he was being snarky or joking because I have seen him respond similarly to me as well when I raised a similar issue with B1 and I have seen him respond to other members as well with similar sarcasm at the very least. Despe and I are “friends” if I may call her that and she won’t brook anything negative about B1 from me. She came out swinging after I told told someone not to rely on forum members for advice and I also noted that the doctor was not available for a consult.

I came to the conclusion that negative comments have no place in this forum for exactly the reason why I am forced to respond to your comment, my friend. I have reasonable, honest and despite the constant pain that I undergo each day, I think that I am extremely responsible and respectful to everyone.

Case in point: I made what I believe was an extremely positive comment about B1 a couple of days ago, right under Art’s nose and I expected to hear from him or you or Roy or MB or Despe. The comment was either ignored or not taken seriously and I never heard from any of you. Yet, only minutes after the comment I just made, I see that you made a comment and Art responded.

Please, we are all in pain and suffering with the disease that is bothering us. On one point I agree: we do not need infighting. It doesn’t help.

I did see the comment from another person named Art with a different username. I did read his claim about Dr. Costantini’s stroke being caused by B1. However, before I could ask a question, the comment/post was gone. I was thoroughly confused about what that meant. I hope that it was untrue. I was going to ask the question whether the conclusion that Dr. Costantini’s stroke was caused by B1 was based on whether he had high blood pressure which we know is the cause for a stroke.

I later saw the post from Art - chartist here who reposted the post about the cause of the doctor’s stroke. He did say that the other comment/post was untrue.

All this being said, let us all pray for the good doctor’s health, wellbeing and speedy recovery and wish him well.

Gio , we are still “friends” correct. ?)

a person who has been reading the forum for a few months has falsely assumed the identity of Easilly which is the previous name of Art with the aim of hitting Dr C and Art himself. This is the hatred I refer to.

The aforementioned person is still with us and I was referring to him.

I don't understand why you feel accused, since you too had the chance to read those posts and you had an interest in dialoguing with this person as you say.

These attitudes aimed at affecting the reputation of people with such falsehoods and without a reason is very regrettable as well as evil,.

Much more than writing some wrong posts, with not very polite appellations that I sometimes find used between us.

Hi, Fed1000 !

I was taking B1 capsules for 5 weeks, and then I noticed some increase in my blood pressure and stopped for a while. But now that you mention rectal inflammation - I noticed some but did not attribute it to B1. Hm, interesting. But since it persists even after discontinuation of B1, this could be sth else...I'll keep you posted when I resume B1 treatment.

Good luck!

Thanks Narcisa for your contribution. Before changing the product, as recommended by Dr. Fancellu, I want to take the injection (0,60ml) every 10 days instead of every week.

narcisa956 profile image
narcisa956 in reply to Fed1000

Is this 0,60 ml the standard amount? Isn't it 100 mg per week/injection?

Fed1000 profile image
Fed1000 in reply to narcisa956

It's a quantity that I chose. I would have reached 100ml gradually, but the contingent problem complicates the things.

narcisa956 profile image
narcisa956 in reply to Fed1000

Oh, I thought that injection amounts are the same for everyone, and that only oral thiamine differs because of individual differences in absorption /metabolism. It is obviously more complicated..........Are you in direct contact with dr. Costantini or dr. Fancellu (by email or Skype)? Have you visited any of them?

Fed1000 profile image
Fed1000 in reply to narcisa956

Evidently everyone reacts differently to therapies. I have been to Dr. Fancellu in Genova last October. Unlike Dr. Costantini, Dr. Fancellu responds to emails only if he saw you in person at least once.

narcisa956 profile image
narcisa956 in reply to Fed1000

You are from Italy, aren't you? Are you now considered dr. Fancellu's patient and follow his regimen, or do you have another neurologist closer to home? I'm from Slovenia and would probably not be able to visit him more than once (even this will be stressful :( ).

Fed1000 profile image
Fed1000 in reply to narcisa956

Yes I am Italian and I have a neurologist near home who does not believe in supplement, that does not respond to emails and calls. I see him once a year for the usual check. My reference neurologist is Dr. Fancellu.

Hi Federico,

I have never had such an effect, IMO we must keep in mind that thiamine can change the case of the body having many roles of which one of the main is an energetic role. For this reason you have to be patient, reduce if there are symptoms of overdose, but not change every time the case changes, it could not be otherwise. Then the body will find its balance if we are well fed.

A person very prepared and who appreciates for his knowledge and thank for the great contribution on the subject is Rescuema .

You can read here post about .

Thanks Gio, I read Rescuema's post and it is very informative but, I don't want to change B1 for the moment (Benerva injections) as you say. I will keep the high guard on nutrition and supplements that, IMO, are in strong correlation with my problem.

rescuema profile image
rescuema in reply to Fed1000

I don't know how long you've been on the IM injections but as Gio recommends, I'd wait out the uncomfortable paradox symptoms as long as not too severe. One of the possible cause for your anal burning may be an initial influx of your stomach acid, digestive enzymes, or bile flow - all positive as long as the levels balance out which could take up to several months. Be sure to cut out sugar and refined high glycemic starch so that they do not contribute to pathogenic bacterial growth such as candida that could be another cause.

Fed1000 profile image
Fed1000 in reply to rescuema

Thanks rescuema, I will certainly follow your advice: wait and avoid harmful foods. Do you know if Allithiamine and Lipothiamine is also found in the form of injections? I seem to understand from your posts that the methods of taking supplements that you recommend are the same ones recommended by Dr. Costantini for B1. Quite right?

rescuema profile image
rescuema in reply to Fed1000

You'll need to go to Japan to find injectable TTFD. As far as I'm aware, the only TTFD sold over the counter is the one offered by Ecological Formulas in the US although it has some undesirable fillers. A new formulation in development may be on the way soon.

Your buttocks may not be so happy with you after a long term IM injections (equivalent of 140x oral dosage), so it's not a bad idea to experiment with other forms of oral supplementation once/if you get bothered eventually or need to taper off. Lipid soluble forms such as TTFD and Sulbultiamine are superior for crossing the BBB for those lacking in transporters than B1 hcl. Benfotiamine is even more bioavailable especially for organs and peripherals and boosts transketolase activity so it's also worth experimenting.

As long as one form works for you, you can stick with it. Since there are so many factors and genetic variances, what works best for one person doesn't apply to all, and this includes nutrition but all should avoid combing high carb (sugar) with high fat.

What's also important is to keep moving your body - avoid being sedentary and stay active to keep mitochondrial functions healthy & avoid oxidative damage.
