Rwesol,

I have and still occasionally use diatomaceous earth, but I do not have PD so I can't comment on any interactions with CL. I am curious as to why you want to take DE?

On a related and very important note, the correct product for oral consumption is "Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth" (FGDE). The other common type of DE will be the DE that is used to coat pool filters and you definitely "DO NOT WANT TO USE THAT TYPE"! It would be toxic to humans.

FGDE is generally used in humans as an anti-parasitic (for various worms), aid in hair, skin and nail growth (due to silica content of 80 ~ 90%), to lower high cholesterol, to lower triglycerides, to increase trace minerals, cleanse the digestive tract (through the scrubbing action of the relatively sharp particles called diatoms) and possibly improve bone health. Oral usage in humans is somewhat controversial, but for those who have tried it and it has worked, probably a little less controversial. FGDE can also be used to kill certain insects. Some people find that it can help alleviate constipation, but I found just the opposite to be the case for me.

On the plus side, it did lower my cholesterol and triglycerides more than it did for the people in the following study, but then I was taking significantly much more FGDE than the study subjects did.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/953...

Basically you mix it in water and drink it. It looks a little like muddy water and to me has a kind of waxy earthy taste to it. Not strong or offensive, but a taste you will likely remember. In the study above, they used 250 mg three times daily for a total intake of 750 mg per day. I used 2 grams + per day when I was using it. One gram in the morning and one gram in the early evening. There are many recommendations on line about using FGDE, but I would not like to use it on a long term basis. The cholesterol and triglyceride lowering effects continue for awhile after discontinuation of oral DE. I do not think it is a good idea to take FGDE on a long term basis, but that is just my opinion.

Some farm supply houses carry FGDE at very low prices, but I opted to buy mine on line. I bought a one pound FGDE labeled container and a 20 lb bag of FGDE to refill the one pound container as needed.

Thank you Art for such a comprehensive answer! I wish to take it to complement the vitamin B 1 protocol I'm employing for Parkinsonism. I'm about a month in. I believe my Parkinsonism is related to Aluminium neurotoxin exposure so the 90% silica is appealing + minerals. My only reservation is that I had negative reaction to charcoal. Vitamin B 1 has helped constipation greatly and has made an obvious improvement in my peripheral circulation...

Rwesol,

Here is a link about chelation that you may find of use :

transbiomedicine.com/transl...

I have always thought that chelation infusions with the right substance for the correct metal is the best way to go, but many doctor's are not down with that method, except of course for the ones who are! In the alternative, maybe oral chelation may have benefit?

On a related note, the herbal extract of Amla that I recently wrote about is a highly potent antioxidant as well as a potent anti-inflammatory and while not a chelator of aluminum, it can do quite well at helping to neutralize many of the negative effects associated with aluminum and other metals in humans. Binding the metal for elimination is one step and repairing any damage is another.

I've been taking a tsp. in water with the rest of my drugs and supplements for the past three weeks to see if I had a parasite issue. Just as I was about to quit, I started seeing what I believe are liver flukes and a few small worms. Constipation has become an issue, but with a little more magnesium oil and more water, I can control that one. I'm all for trying anything that might make me feel better. I'll give it another month and if I don't see a big difference in the amount of parasites or how I feel, I'll give it up.

Great! The kind I bought is organic food grade. Only the best for my fleas!

bass,

If you are using it to control fleas indoors, if you vacuum up the remaining DE after the fleas have gone through a few reproductive cycles, depending on the construction of the vacuum you use, those diatoms have been known to destroy certain types of vacuums because they are very hard and sharp so they can be hard on bearings and seals.
