It's always been a problem, but now much worse, harder and longer intervals (up to 4 days).

I take mannitol, B1 (2k twice), magnesium citrate - I can take 800 or 1600 and if it don't won't to move, it ain't.

I am PWP, take 1200 C/L daily.

I eat good.

I drink mucho water, nothing else (zero sugar Gatorade for Crossfit)

Any thoughts?

Exercising, like skipping rope or simply jumping 50-100 times helps me. I use the neurofitbc.com YouTube videos.

Parkinson's tends to dry out the G.I. tract. Docusate sodium replaces the lost moisture in the stools and in so doing helps it to move. When I have needed it I have taken the maximum recommended dose of 250 mg or even more.

As weird as it sounds, my meditation practice that I began about 6 months ago (Dr. Joe Dispenza) has taken the B1 progress of constipation relief to a whole new level. It’s Quantum Physics. I learned to move and change the energy in and around my body, engaging ones energy field. As a part of the practice we work on the energy center directly related to the digestive track.

My G. I. track now has normal moisture to move things along swiftly and more often than it’s been for a decade.

This has been more consistent than any previous remedy attempt.

As a side note my tremor is all but almost completely gone but I’ll wait to publish a full post for another few months, along with the continued reversing of symptoms I’m experiencing.

Relieve and remove constipation may equal reduced and reversed symptoms.

Very interesting after just watching this. Just wondering Have you paid for the on line courses?

Beanie the answer is YES. I did his Progressive Workshop from home and got results. The results came and continue to come every week.

Highly recommend this, it’s all about the brain, and we do have a brain disease don’t we. His program is a fabulous way to manage and reverse disease.

Apart from mannitol and lots of water, I soak a teaspoon or so of linseeds in a little water overnight and drink the resulti in the morning. It turns into what I can only describe as lubricant for the bowel.

Then there's kefir and other fermented foods for the gut microbes - and prunes..

Hope you find something.

My husband also takes linseed (aka flaxseed) for his constipation. He eats the whole seeds mixed in to his cereal, blended into a smoothie, or sprinkled on other foods. When moistened, the seeds develop a slippery gel-like coating. It has made a huge difference. He hasn't had any constipation since he began taking these seeds daily.

Read up on Symprove probiotic.

I would second that!

I take a single dose of Restoralax every other day. I may have to resort to a daily dose at some point but for now I will keep going with every other day.

I live in Canada so Restoralax may not be available but a safe Polyethylene Glycol powder which is mixed with any liquid (it is tasteless) should be available.

When I have a big time urgency, I take one or two Magnesium capsules every hour plus 2-

4 glasses of water till I poop. Good luck.

This is a physical method that may help

youtube.com/watch?v=C8sSUsJ...

also taking a metamucil type product (away from your drugs and supplement as it may affect the absorption).

Eating lots of plants and exercise seems to help, too.

Yes indeed with a Capital "C" I finally Conquered Constipation thanks to accumulated discussion and problem solving from everyone here and it has taken so many notes and discipline. Instead of Gatorade I use nunn hydration 1/2 tab with 8 ounces water. My stool was so hard and dry. Gastrointestinal says "no straining" But How Else? Turmeroc 1/4 tsp fresh squeezed lemons 1/2 tsp honey & add Emergen C packet and fill with OJ. I drink this beverage 3-4 times daily. Fast walk works for me. Rev up your motor. Spin the exercyle as fast as I can interval training. Now pull all these helpful hints into a method Continue liquids avoid milk products and ice cream Including milkhakes which = 3 lactose tans because I am lactose intolerant.

I tried the 8 PM to 1pm fasting ans throw in a cup of caffinated coffee to stimulate bowels precisely 6 am. Salads for breakfast lunch and dinner my simple 3 step vinigrete dressing . Veggies add third portion of tuna or salmon to salad and chick peas..always chomp on CELERY Don't like CELERY then JUICE IT. Add cucumbers AND RED YELLOW ORANGE OK GREEN PEPPER AND DON'T FORGET KIWIS AT LEAST 4 Eat thoroughlChew slowly slow down enjoy each biteful and this is called "mindful eating" . I have always eaten like I had to eat and go. I thought this one change in behavior would not be possible. The 8pm to 1 PM fasting schedule helps. My sister lives in Portugal . She is "spot on " about health matters. Her advice KIWIS. Also CELERY. IF a bit of dip won't do JUICE A BUNCH with apples. Leave Peel on if Organic. And always ADD more ONIONS. GARLIC. LEEKS.AND MUSHROOMS ESPECIALLY LION'S MANE powdered mushrooms I buy from OM can be added to Smoothies along with BEET POWDER MICUNA whatever combo (formula) you prefer. It's easy to be creative and make fast recipes. And I say that for those of us who work at home. I like the helpful hint to freeze portions (meals) for the week. FOCUS ON MINI MEALS. WE all have names of foods to avoid. But canned pumpkin always works for my 20 year old cat. She could be named Beta Caratene. This Casserole for Constipation takes minutes to prepare from canned pumpkin. Fresh sweet potatoes are so easy to prepare and I prefer the flavor. So I just add cooked sweet potatoes to mixing bowl add 3 Tblsp egg substitute I prefer cartoon of egg whites that are safe to consume. Add Ceylon cinnamon to taste coconut oil 3 heaping tablespoons honey to taste dried cranberries or raisins and yes walnuts for topping brushed with honey bake until toasted on top. Vidalia Onions sauteed with garlic and fresh mushrooms. BON APPETIT! MY BATTERY OUT

I was heavy on Foods that Help. I really found first forgive expression " the unclog part" tough. Liquid diet fast 1 1/2 days to start. I use 1 Dulcolax to determine how badly my "stoppage" . Believe me the drain problem in our house was far easier to solve. And everytime my gut gets problematic everything including mobility is messed up. And brain fog. This is a major issue. So I follow Park Bear's advice drink plenty of fluids. My bowels were not moving at 1st. It was a major clog. I resumed small salad increased turmeric tea to calm body. And my nerves. Couldn't leave the house. Miserable. And every day impaction issues. Slowly by altering diet, hydration no caffeine if possible and Mirolax which is easier on my system than laxatives. A month later stool is daily anticipated event and empty naturally. Loose not dry. Don't give up. If you don't have time to do the mini-meals a brand cereal breakfast & dinner works. Just don't overload on brand and gluten free? I try. Good luck

My husband takes a capful of Miralax or generic every day and that helps a lot. We usually put it in a shake or just in a glass of water (no taste at all).

I couldn’t reliably get regular until I added the following two over-the-counters to my list of supplements: Coalace and Miralax. One or two doses each depending on need.

This is a major problem for me. Right now, I have been struggling for five days with no success. I take Miralax 2 times a day, and in desperation resorted to a maximum dose of laxatives with stool softener four days ago. Still nothing. The waste moves through my bowels easily, but it's so hard I can't push it out. I exercise every day, walk, and eat fairly well. Help!

twss profile image
twss in reply to S70AWD

I understand, I do it all, water, CrossFit. Mannitol has not helped at all as I thought it was in the beginning. Going to do raw veggies, fruit, beans, try to lay off whites and meat.

JAS9 profile image
JAS9 in reply to twss

Yes, natural or so-called "whole foods" veggies, fruits, beans, even some kinds of potatoes. Flax and other seeds and nuts in moderation. The more natural fiber the better. There is no fiber in meat or highly refined foods (including most oils and refined sugar). I eat plant-based foods whenever possible. Added bonus of getting a lot of antioxidants and phytonutrients. You literally can't get too much of these good things!

Have you looked up FodMap diet for IBS? May help understand which beans...recommendations include fruit& cheese ....I recall Swiss cheese ok. Avoid all other cheese. And try Prune Juice. It works for me. Fodmap also has Swiss cheese on the Dairy. That's it. Kim chi delicious to some. Take care if taking Azilect.

Avoid cheddar and Other cheese

I live near a goat farm. I would like to order fresh goat's milk. And bee sting therapy. I don't know about effect on bowels but it sure get you Movin'!

Hi Twss,

I can relate to this! I've had major issues with this. Impaction or blockages, and lying awake at night feeling things moving, very slowly, with discomfort. Sometimes can't even pass gas!

The problem really interferes with life! A couple of times it was quite painful in the lower right quadrant, wondered if I was having an appencititis attack.

The worst constipation seems to happen when I'm away, or slipped out of my regime/routine. I'm glad those taking Restoralax or Mirilax are doing well, but for me it seems to cause more pain, more gas, bulk things up, and make things worse!

My new concept: Things are always better with more exercise and more water. I'm starting to eat more veggies too! A good probiotic is important. They are expensive, though.

If you hate taking probiotic supplements and would rather eat them in your diet, I discovered kimchi which is spicy Korean fermented cabbage. It smells horrid (if you still have your sense of smell intact), but I love to eat it. It makes a difference in my gut - more motility. Or a good sauerkraut can help things flow better.

I am taking mannitol and I do believe it makes things move along. I also have a cup of coffee daily, as that stimulates the colon, but it also can dry you out, so, again, drink lots of water, take vitamin B1, and magnesium citrate. I sometimes use the Smooth Move tea as well which probably helps things. So many variables! Let us know if you find relief. Good luck!

I take miralax twice a week wether I need it or not and I have a bowel movement every 24 to 48 hrs. I have also started to walk more at least thirty minutes a day and try to get another twenty minutes or so on the stationery bike at night.

Dulcolax is Bisacodyl, 10mg suppository or 5mg oral. If I have one 5mg tab with lunch I can expect a BM the next morning. If I take any sort of narcotic I can expect 2-3 days of nothing moving.

Exercise, mostly aerobics. Start with slow then fast walking if possible. Cod liver oil, spinach and brown beans works for me. Also, occasional miralax could be used to alternate Cod liver oil.

twss, I recommend that you see a gastroenterologist. I am personally aware of the effects of bowel obstruction on people who I know. The options are terrible if nothing else works and the blockage cannot be removed at the hospital with either the so called "digital" method or through enemas. These two methods are by themselves quite gross and painful.

The final option is bowel/colon surgery. This means that if the patient is in a really bad shape, the surgery could be deep enough to result in the need for a"colostomy" bag. That's a very poor outcome. It's worse than living life with Parkinson's. Trust me.

A gastroenterologist might prescribe you medication that can help you. I know people who have described life changing benefits from a new and exciting drug called Linzess.

Bottom line is that nobody should ever ignore a bowel obstruction!!
