My husband has good days but goes to bed around 9 as meds’ wear off , sleeps till 12/1am then up every hour to stretch/ go to the loo often needing help to pull him up to get out of bed , eventually gets up about 5am. It’s killing me my sleep is totally disrupted and I’m struggling with my hip helping him out of bed . Any suggestions to help him sleep better ? He has no problems getting to sleep. Takes Stelevo Safinamide Ropinerole and Vit B1 . Thanks

Does he take meds at night? If yes, maybe you could check with his doctor about a slight increase to improve his nighttime mobility.

No his last meds are at 8 pm he has Madapor as a rescue if he is really bad .

Maybe a small dose of that (1/2 or 1/4 of a pill) when he wakes at midnight would give him the mobility to help himself in and out of bed through the wee hours so you can get some sleep.

I know exactly what you are describing. I have the same sleep pattern. Go to sleep, wake up an hour or two later, then can’t get back to sleep.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 8-9 years ago. I have tried very many prescribed sleeping pills and they all make my Parkinson’s symptoms worse. It bothered me because if my wife needed my help or had to go to the hospital, my ability to help her would be compromised.

Right now, it is 1:40AM on the West Coast and I am quite awake and will go back to bed when I’m finished here.

Something I haven’t tried is GABA, which is an amino acid. You can read up on it at thesleepdoctor.com. It is intriguing to me because it deals with calming down the brain. I find that I sleep better on the weekends when I can

“Check my worries at the garage door”.

I am going to order some GABA and will let you know my results.

There is always hope.

I take Sinemet LP (libération prolongée) 100mg at night time, and that can take me through 9+ hrs.

Melatonin worked for me for a while, now I'm taking medicinal marijuana to sleep and I'm averaging 6 to 7 hours of sleep.

My husband takes about 1/6 of a 30mg mirtazapine /remeron tablet. It knocks him out but isn’t enough to make him dozy the next day.

Sinemet plus is a slow-release version of sinemet that I was given for overnight. Talk to your doctor about the problem

I have similar sleep issues. Tried 10 mg of Melatonin. Not much luck. Added chewable Levadopa Again not much difference. Changed Levadopa for 8 mg THC. That got much better results. Not great, but much better.

Now, please DON'T rush out and buy Glutathione. "It is a naturally occurring protein made by and used by every cell in the body."

I am having the exact same issues with my husband. I, too, am EXHAUSTED. In addition to getting up on his own every hour or so (with me helping him out of bed), we have to set the alarm for him to take C/L every two hours. He tried Melatonin but was increasing his Orthostatic Hypotension (be sure to read the side effects on Melatonin; can increase Orthostatic Hypotension). We recently changed Neurologists and hope to work more on this issue in our next visit as the first couple of visits were involved in working out some other issues. But please know, I am with you.

Does your husband take Magnesium? I used to have the same sleep issues. Since I started taking 400mg of Magnesium Citrate and Vitamin D3/K2 2 hours before going to bed, my sleep greatly improved. I still wake up in the middle of the night, usually after 4 hours of sleep, so I take 2 caps of Mucuna Dopa and sleep for 3 - 4 hours more.

Wow -you sound like us....my brother is up a lot,but has stomach issues as well - nauseated, both related to wearing off of meds, and gas, and it keeps him up at night. I'm not sure if you have a similar issues,but if so, try plain old magnesium powder...we just discovered this! ....1 cup of warm water with 1 or 2 teaspoons of magnesium powder...stir, and take before bed...his stomach has been better with it, and he sleeps a bit better too. If you don't have that issue, and your hubby just can't sleep, our neurologist gave us Seroquel-a low dose, that helped him sleep - and it does! It's a mild anti-depressant as well)- but bladder control due to drowsiness became a problem, so we had to stop that. Around 2 or 3 every morning, I still get up to give him his meds to get him through the night....maybe you could try a later dose before bedtime. He takes Rytary and when he gets his pills, it takes 30 minutes or so, but it actually helps him sleep. My brother is up a lot at night, and most often needs help getting in bed after going to the bathroom due to rigidity- this has become an issue, especially since he has to use a call button to wake me up at night (I'm a family member, not a spouse - and sleep in another room). rrrrrr-I feel your pain.

So sorry you're having a difficult time; I would suggest that your husband takes Melatonin 10mg (over the counter natural supplement) 30 minutes before bedtime and ask your doctor or Pharmacist if the Stelevo comes in a long acting form for overnight. My husband takes Carbadopa/levodopa short acting during the day and an extended release at bedtime to last overnight. If your husband is getting up just to urinate often that's a separate issue that your doctor can help with. Please let me know how you're doing! Best of luck
