Great news for zebrafish and mice.

Yes it's zebra fish and mice. So yes at only early stage research. But it is a repurposed drug so already tested safe in humans. It's a reminder that steady PD3 is due to report in less than a month's time (isradipine a blood pressure drug repurposing which has made it all the way to the end of a 3 year phase 3 trial). And BIIB054 is one of at least 6 experimental drugs with great promise targeting alpha synuclein aggregation in current trials.

Turn over enough rocks and you'll find the coin.

Agreed : at least these trials are expected to give results before a few years...

no just cut the bullshit hope is one thing false hope is another

MMMMMMM

Lets form a company, need good name , "National P.D. Research Councilors" "International Motion Disorder Study Group"

Buy lots of lab mice, dye different colors

I dont know what Zebra Fish are but Zebras will be out of the question.

Get several research grants from PD society's , Canada, US , Britain , M. J Fox etc.

Get Government grants to employ students

Employ students to write papers

Publish Papers

Do over

We will need a place to put the money.

Hi Xenos,But there is some promise even without Zebra fish but with mices, this is ‘serious’stuff also funded by MJFF:

Traslation for who don’t like read research’s like me:

"They formulated the hypothesis that synapsin III could be involved in the formation of Lewy bodies.

To test this hypothesis, they performed a study on mice in which the gene encoding the synapsin III protein was knocked out ("KO") and then injected viral vectors with AAV-hasyn, a genetic engineering technique that induces a overproduction of the alpha-synuclein protein, resulting in protein accumulation and neurodegeneration in normal mice.

In contrast to normal mice, mice with the synapsin III gene put KO did not develop alpha-synuclein aggregates; also the levels of pathological forms of alpha-synuclein were lower. Furthermore, the nerve cells in the black substance and in the striatum were protected both from damage to the synapses and from the actual degeneration induced by the injection of AAV-hasyn.

These results indicate that synapsin III is a mediator for the aggregation of alpha-synuclein and subsequent neurodegeneration. Therefore, it is a new target for innovative therapies against Parkinson's disease. "

I am so wary of any news about a 'POSSIBLE' cure or any news that includes the words 'CAN' or 'Possible' or 'MAYBE'. If the manufacturers of any of these drugs want to find out if their drug cures Parkinson's, then that is not the way to go about getting it tested!

Taking any drug can lead to serious side effects and even worse, another 'LET-DOWN'.

Give us a break!

So far, there is only one way I know of reversing some of the symptoms of Pd and that is FAST WALKING. If you are tempted to put that to the test, it is not going to cost you anything and even if it does not do anything for your Pd, then WHAT HAVE YOU LOST?

I say so far MMS is the best medicine, good diet, walking , positive attitude helps too.

My best wishes to all of you.

I know what you mean. There are a lot of articles on a weekly basis of late. Hopefully there is some cure (a couple of pills a day to keep the disease away) around the corner, given the research going on in UK and other places ( not the US !!). The challenge is to maintain the body and mind in shape so that when it is time to make a recovery, it is easier and quicker. Given that PD commonly affects the elderly, that is one heck of a challenge.
