10 months since starting on a Keto Diet and still on Zero Medication - progress report :-)

So, currently I’m somewhere between Keto Diet LCHF and Full Carnivore with Intermittent Fasting. Delighted to say that my diarrhoea gradually cleared up and was possibly caused by a bug rather than carnivory. I’ve cut back on my coffee intake, take a (very) cold shower when I get up and keep plugging away with a daily solo 2 racket squash session and an hour of resistance training in the gym - both accessed by a ~ 15 minute ebike ride. This is slowly recovering some of my much reduced physical strength. Because I came off the pd meds at the same time as I changed to the Keto diet, I’m unsure which caused the sarcopenia, but it was probably coming off the Ropinirole and Sinemet. I am still optimistic that Keto / Full Carnivore with Intermittent Fasting plus all the other tactics will keep the pd at bay or even reverse it in time. I seem to be holding up OK at present!

Mentally I feel quite sharp, albeit lacking in confidence and ‘daring’’, I sleep really well - and my back pain is tolerable without meds, which is lucky as I’ll be long dead before our f’tard UK government eventually sees the light and legalises AND FACILITATES cannabis treatment for Parkinson’s Disease.

Thank you for your update. Happy to hear you are doing well. Beautiful lake!

I am also still on LCHF diet with everyday intermittent fasting.

Adding yoga and meditation to the Ketogenic diet makes that much more beneficial.

Start with organ meat + bacon + eggs at 9am, skip lunch and have steak for supper at 5pm. Skip breakfast once or so per week to get a 24hr fast

Hi, just curious how often do you do your intermittent fasting?

I've been doing keto for 65 days now (my app tells me!) and I'm dabbling with the fasting.... Daily regular now 20 hours of zero eating.... But I do start the day with a keto coffee... Is that bad I'm not sure!?

But I've also just done a 43 hour fast, to see how I feel

I've been on keto for about 14 months now and feeling much better too despite having cut my Sinimet dosage. Wish I could keep up my more modest exercise regime but other, age related, problems (like arthritis) are hampering that ambition. Also doing occasional IF and getting a good 8 to 9 hours sleep a night. The biggest change, for me, has been the reduction in anxiety and being free from compulsive behaviours that have plagued me for many years - the improvement in my mood has been the biggest improvement. Of course, it may not benefit everyone, but its nice to know there are others.

Hi Francis.

Good to hear Keto Diet works for you too. You could go the whole hog and try Full Carnivore with Intermittent Fasting. Mikhaila Peterson and others have had excellent results with arthritis. Best regards, Phil 2bats

Ive been LCHF for about 8 years, just got my diagnosis 3 months ago. I'm now looking even closer to see how LC I really am. Dave Aspery told me that basmatic white rice is a good food and he gave a thumbs up to sweet potatoes. Eat them both regularly. My wife and I cheat with some apple deserts with brown sugar and have 90 cacoa choclate with apples too. we cheat with potatoe chips as well but not crazy often. thougths on the white rice and sweet potatoes related to PD? I'm open to taking them out. Already 86 ing the potatoe chips and sugar added deserts. jm

Hi jm. That doesn’t sound LC enough to get you into ketosis. I’d recommend dietdoctor.com over Dave Asprey. And I’d try to fight the Parkinson’s Disease without drugs and make sure you’re in ketosis all the time. You could also try intermittent fasting - and Carnivore Diet. Good luck! thanks for the feedback, i'm going to make needed changes. one fear i have is losing too much weight with the LC or Keto. I'm comfortable at my typical 165-170. I'm 5'11" and have always been in good shape generally. thoughts?

According to my shiny new Bluetooth scales I weigh 66kg = 145lbs, with my height nov 5’11” due posture losing an inch, it computes to a body fat 16%. Leaner than the average, but then the average human is likely to be carrying a large excess. It’s amusing being told I need to gain weight by people with a BMI >30, although that doesn’t happen here in Queenstown New Zealand where most people are generally fit!

You could find that you feel fine at a lower weight, assess your physique against athletes rather than Joe Public... you should find a comfortable weight on Keto, whatever that may be, without worrying about the actual number of lbs. Having a waist narrower than your hips correlates to better life expectance too.

Both the white rice and the sweet potato are high carb foods. Assuming your white rice is Basmati, both are lower GI so convert to sugar less quickly. They cannot be part of a LC diet though unless in tiny quantities. Same goes for the chips and deserts!! This diet is very common in diabetes to reduce sugar from carbs and induce ketosis

Interesting - when you say debilitating, do you mean that you’ve got half your normal strength? Lack of strength is my big problem, but I hadn’t put it down to protein...

Meditation has reduced my symptoms to the level of leading a normal life medication free. I recommend Dr Joe Dispenza’s teachings available online.

My only other supplements are B1, Vinpocetine, Mucuna, and a couple other powders added to smoothies a couple times a week.

In my experience diet alone is not enough.

Coming up on 5 years since my first noticeable physical symptoms began.

Full Carnivore Diet for nearly a couple of years. Back on 5mg Ropinirole and 75mg (3x25) Sinemet daily. Raynauds is back but not as severe. Weight only 67kg these days!Best regards, Phil 2bats
