Trazodone for Parkinson’s: delays progression

Hi all, found this information about the benefits of Trazodone. It appears that new research shows that it can help slow progression.

Another click-bait title that doesn't really match the content. Simon, in the first link, explains trazadone is a candidate for drug repurposing trials based on some evidence in mice that it may slow neurodegeneration, but suggests it may not be a good PD candidate because it interferes with dopamine uptake.

I would not take Trazadone because of its negative effect on motor function.

I am always skeptical when I see the words CAN and POSSIBLY. If the product DOESdo something for Pd I a sure the articles would say DOES!

Not quite.

Simon says, "The researchers concluded “that Trazodone may be effective in alleviating L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia and psychosis in Parkinson’s, but its deleterious effect on motor function is a concern and may limit its tolerability and usefulness in clinical settings”. and "In addition to these studies, there have been other case reports suggesting that Trazodone may actually cause Parkinson’s-like motor-related issues in the elderly."

Conclusion; "... but to date there has been limited investigations of it in models of Parkinson’s. The clinical data that we have available is mixed and suggestive that some caution is required..."

There are plenty of studies of medications, nutrients, vitamins, etc. that claim to show promise regarding some aspect of PD based on experiments conducted with mice. But as far as I know, only humans get diagnosed with PD, not mice! Best to take these studies with a grain of salt.
