Hi Forum members, please help.I just want to be sure that I am not alone in this PD journey. The journey with too many hitches and challenges.Considering the multifacted status of this condition and the fact that ,it affects everybody differently,I wonder if anyone has experienced occassional redness of the eyes, dry eyes,or blurred vision, sometimes after waking up in the mornings or when unable to fall asleep at night. The blurred vision ,sometimes occur with brain fog,or head and neck pressure/pain.Please respond, every little support on this forum is itself a form of therapy, because you hardly get the MD to answer all your questions. They are usually very busy.It is also good to learn from experiences.Thank you all.

If you Google, How Parkinson’s affects your eyes, there is a lot of information there. One of the ways it can affect our eyes is through dryness and redness of the eyes. I hope you get some helpful feedback. It never fails to amaze me all the ways we are affected by PD.

PwP blink less than non-PD people so dryness is common. Lubricating eye drops - NOT Visine or anything to reduce redness - are helpful. My eye doc says not to rub and to use a warm compress to wipe away crustiness.

My eye doctor said that my eyes were. dry,.He also. told me that if I used drops I probably would see better…and,he was right¡!!

Dry eyes is a very common PD symptom, but I think when PWPs get in to see their neurologist, dry eyes may be the last symptom that they mention as the other symptoms can be so prominent that that is where patients may concentrate their efforts when talking with their doctor. I wrote a post about a possible way of dealing with dry eyes. Just click on my round icon and select the post about dry mouth, dry eyes, dry skin, dry lips and eye floaters.

I read the post. It mentioned eyes in the title and then never again. I know I am a bear of very little brain, but I'm confused

WTP,

It is in the very last post of the thread near the bottom. I kept adding as I was experimenting, otherwise all of the later posts would have all been part of the original post. The aloe vera plain or with the glycerol and xylitol, but not in the eyes and only on the outside of the eyes.

Yes, I have that problem, too. Over the years, I've had PD, my blurriness has gradually gotten worse. The neurologist, when I try to talk to him about it, is academic in his approach, not really saying much. I'm thankful that I have an eye doctor who examines PD patients, frequently. He examines my eyes well, and makes a correction, in great detail. So, he helps a lot, in terms of me getting new glasses, periodically, to correct the continuing blurriness, so that I can see better.

Not sure anyone else has this problem but when I sleep I do not close my eyes. My husband discovered this one afternoon when I took a nap otherwise I may of not known I had this problem. I knew something was wrong because after sleeping my eyes were always red and dry. I went to a eye doctor and found out I could be prescribed two small weights one for each eye that could be adhered with a small tape each night on top of my eyelid. And, after sending documentation indicating the weights were for a medical condition my insurance covered the cost of the weights but not the adhesive strips that are used each night to adhere to eyelid. I was told that if a person continues to sleep without closing their eyes that the cornea can be damaged. The condition is nocturnal lagophthalmos, which basically means an inability to fully close your eyelids at night.

My wife had blurred vision and double vision. We went to the opthomologist who said that certain signals to the brain don't always connect in synchronization to the optic nerve. The remedy? Hf e prescribed "prism" glasses for her vfc to use. They corrected the problem almost instantaneously. She never had the problem with distant vision, only with reading. When reading words would jump around the page. The glasses fixed that. Hope this helps.

I have had triuppoublecwith my vision over these past two years. I have trouble focusing and the bright light bothers my eyes. I had prisms in my glasses, but it made it worse for people me to see, so I am getting new glasses in a few days - one that is transitions and one that is sunglasses. I hope they help me!
