Thiamin hcl and Low Blood pressure

I have low blood pressure naturally. I want to try the vitamin b1 thiamin therapy for my Parkinsons. I am on a dose of 1000 mg (500 mg in morning) and (500mg lunch) .

This week I have been dizzy and ready to faint when I stand up or do aerobic exercise.

I read that thiamin hcl can cause low blood pressure. Should I lower dose or just forget taking this treatment? Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes, Thiamine is noted for having the potential to lower blood pressure, but the only report that I have seen on the forum was for a member who reported that HDT "raised" their blood pressure significantly and they were able to work around it by reducing their HDT dose, but yours would be the first tester of HDT, that I am aware of, to report a blood pressure decrease. If that is correct you should talk to your doctor to see if you can continue to use HDT or if it is not an option for you, because it can be very dangerous if your pressure drops too low.

It would be in order to get yourself good blood pressure cuff and measure your blood pressure with and without thiamine, standing up and lying down, morning and evening.

Are you on anything else that in conjunction with B1 could contribute to the decrease ? Although I'm fine with HDT, I have a tendency towards hypostatic bp, and it's esp affected by many of the vitamins anti inflammatory supplements I take. I alternate days when I take them, and work to keep my BP stable through my diet.

I also have low BP. 90/65 last time it was taken. And lower when I stand up. Cardiologist advised salt. I snack on a big bowl of potato chips every afternoon. GP said to stay hydrated. Lots of water. Maybe one of these might help? But I’d also check with your doctor. People get injured when they faint and fall.

This is a delayed response, but for others looking up this post later, this is the correct protocol. Increase salt when fighting low BP. Also supplement magnesium.

It all depends on potassium/sodium/magnesium balance.

What also may help is to make a bone broth with higher sea salt, and you'll see your BP balance out very quickly.

Thank you for the info - do you take thiamin hcl?

And if so what dosage?

I too have low blood pressure (90/63) and find that even taking 250mg of B1 is too much for me as I feel unsteady on my feet.

Guess that for some, high dose Thiamine hcl does not work.

Amantadin 100mg seems to help.

can I ask where you get the Amantadine ?

Melodie, sorry for this very late reply: I was out of action for the last 2 mths.

Amantadine is obtained through a GP's prescription. I live in Singapore and it is available here as Symmetrel.

I too noticed low pressure when under HDT. Took a day off and reduced dosage. Do you still continue with HDT? at what dosage?
