Thiamine and urine smells like sulfur

I've been taking thiamine 2gram/day for 2 months already to treat my hands essential tremor. My hands are still shaking and recently my urine smells like sulfur.

Is there anything to worry about ? What's your recommendation or solution?

Thank you very much.

IMHO it would be nice to have more data: what kind of thiamine? HCL? what brand?, what other vitamins ?, b complex? if I may ask.

Are you experiencing any urinary pain or irritation or excess frequency?

No urinary pain or irritation but excess frequency. Do i have to reduce thiamine intake? Thanks.

I started having Urine pain and excess frequency. Is this caused by vitamin b1? Thank you

You can try stopping B-1 for a week or so to see if it is the culprit. B-1 does impart a "different smell" to my urine, but it is not the smell of sulfur and not very strong. Vitamin B-2 (riboflavin) does definitely cause a smell and color change to the urine in that it makes the urine appear an iridescent yellow/green color with a rather strong smell, but I don't see that on your list. Let us know what you figure out.

A quick word here....I wish everyone on HU the best.

Smelling sulfur after taking large dose thiamine is nothing to worry about and is actually quite normal. Of all the B vitamins, thiamine and biotin contain sulfur so it is a natural side effect.

I have been off this site because I am working on a second, and final, science documentary. The subject matter is von Economo's encephalitis, which was featured in the movie Awakenings. It is a great medical history and a fascinating subject. For those unfamiliar with the disease here is a clip from the 1920's:

A popular history titled The Great Influenza by John Barry notes 'Contemporary observers also linked influenza to an increase in Parkinson’s disease a decade later. (Some have theorized that the patients in Oliver Sacks’s The Awakening were victims of the 1918 influenza pandemic.)' The 1918 Influenza struck those with strong immune responses hard, including the young.
