Swallowing?

The past few nights, I have been woken up by my swallowing reflex. I have had PD symptoms for the past six years and was diagnosed in early 2015. I became more aware of my swallowing, but it never woke me up before this. What PD meds can help with this? It is very unnerving...and makes it hard for me to relax and go back to sleep. I am currently on no meds...as Selegiline gave me chest tightness and C/L made me throw up. My doctor just suggested Requip, but I haven’t started taking it as of yet. I also haven’t told him about the swallowing annoyance yet. Any suggestions? What experiences have any of you had taking Requip? Swallowing problems? Thank you for your help!

That immediate release Carbidopa levodopa made me vomit also. You could ask your doctor for a Carbidopa levodopa CR which stands for continuous release. This one is a generic, works well, is not too expensive.

I have no suggestions, only encouragement to see your NEURO and tell him of all these new symptoms.

I was diagnosed about 6 years before you, and didn't take anything that helped. Four years ago I could no longer work and PD symptoms were getting much worse, including swallowing. I switched neuros and the new one tried giving me C/L as Sinemet. Like you I couldn't tolerate even a little bit of it. For another year I took nothing until I switched neuros again and the new one prescribed Rytary. I don't know what the differences are exactly, but Rytary is a good time-released version of C/L that I do well on. You might see if you can get a sample of it to try. It can be expensive, but there are ways around that if it works. Since then, almost all of my PD symptoms are better, including swallowing. I've only had 2 episodes of it in the past year and those were when I was congested.
