Advice about mannitol

Celtis profile image
23 Replies

I started mannitol 5mg twice a day. I felt I was moving about a lot more easily. But I had to give it up because it seemed to be giving me diarrhea. Diarrhea is a perennnial problem for me. It was partly solved by taking LDN but I had to give that up when I had a knee replacement. I feel I can't do mannitol on top of everything else.

I am hoping that there may be a way to take it nasally. Can anyone advise me on that? I am very anxious to be able to take it somehow or other.

Hi Celtis,

Why not try to begin with low doses, and up it gradually, as soon as your body has adapted to it ?

Thanks for the response. I will consider that.

Celtis,

Did you mean 5 mg or did you mean 5 gm? I wouldn't have thought 5 mg would have any effect at all.

I meant to take 5 grams, half in the morning and half in the afternoon. But the reaction I got made me give up the afternoon one. Stupid of me to write mg instead of grams. Sorry. And thanks for responding.

Just a thought, but it might help if you dissolve the mannitol in a bottle of water and sip throughout the day to give a slower release than 5 grams all at one time. It shouldn't taste like much of anything.

Thank you. I'll try that.

I know when I first started taking xylitol , another sugar alcohol that is similar to mannitol, it can give me digestive issues, but I seem to become more tolerant as time passes, so it may be similar for you with mannitol and you can also try working your dose up gradually to see if you build a little tolerance to those unwanted effects. Having it with food may also help.

Hi Art, what was the reasoning behind xylitol rather than mannose? Thanks

in reply to LAJ12345

Xylitol is a part of my psoriasis protocol. I don't use mannitol, but both being polyols, they share some qualities such as being prebiotics and both being useful to help increase butyrate production. For my purpose, xylitol seemed a bit more useful and it is considered a very good butyrate agonist, which is a very important point for psoriasis. It also had studies to suggest that it can act as a histone deacetylase inhibitor which would be quite important in psoriasis, PD and cancer among others. A major downside to xylitol is that it can be very toxic to dogs!

The idea of getting one's body used to the mannitol seems good to me and I will try. However I

seem to remember Sunvox posting that he thought to get plant sugars to the brain by inhaling a spray. I was hoping someone would tell me about that. I don't think I understood very well though. Maybe it is not an option.

It attracts water and for that purpose is used in hospitals to lessen brain swelling. The doses then are given intravenously and doesn't compare to what you can absorb orally (they are far superior).

Sincerely, I do not think it's a very good idea to put it in the nose, so close of the brain.

Even though I do not qualify to have an opinion.

Dissolving in water and increasing the dose gradually seems to be my best option. Thank you for your reponse

Is it this one?

clinicrowd.info

I started taking my mannitol on one dose act bedtime due to 'socially excluding' wind of I took it in the morning! My body seems to sort it out overnight with no effects on me (or my husband)...

I take 7g per day as recommended on the Clinicrowd site for my bodyweight of 56kg ish.
