How to measure thiamine powder

Im about to start my mum on thiamine hcl. Ive emailed Dr Costantini and he responded within an hour :) I would ideally like to give Mum her dose in powder as it would avoid all the fillers but how do I measure 1 gram accurately ? I have had this problem before and found Jewellers scales to be inaccurate maybe I just had the wrong scales. Is there a measuring spoon available does anyone know ? I'm in the UK.

About a month ago I started a thread on Neurotalk/Parkinson's about weighing tablets:

neurotalk.org/parkinson-s-d...

I used a digital scales, 8028 series. Available on eBay for about £10. If you want to look into this area, you want a scales that measures "0.001 g", i.e. a mg. You should calibrate the scales using the fixed weight that comes with the scales, you can also use, e.g. a 1p coin or a 5p coin. You also want to take multiple readings of the same sample.

Here is a highly accurate scale sold by Amazon for about $32 US.

Thiamine is highly compressible and cannot be accurately measured by volume - you have to use a good scale.

Thank you 😊

heidle,

It may be more convenient for all concerned for you to start your mom on tablets or capsules while in the testing phase of HDT, because tablets and capsules are generally accurately measured and will make it quick and easy to do any dosage adjustments that may be needed in order to get to your mom's optimum dose. Once her dose is established then you can switch to the pure powder form of B-1. It is also harder to do the powder dosing when you are away from home, so some people find that using the powder when at home is good and then also having tablets or capsules for when you are out and about is most convenient.

Good luck to you and your mom on the HDT testing and please keep us posted on your results!

Actually I've decided to start on the tablets after all. Mainly because I won't be able to trust mum to measure the powder and I'm not usually there in the morning. I'm meant to start her with 1g but am thinking I might do the first day or 2 on 500mg just to be sure mum doesn't have a reaction. I'm already having a nightmare with her Sinemet dosing and can't decide if she's under or over dosed. Very stressful 😑

I have been using UK made G&G vitamin capsules which are pure Thiamine except for the cellulose capsule itself. Available on G&G website or Amazon.

Thank you. That's good to know. I've just ordered some Solgar but yours sound much better.

That sounds like a safer plan and since it sounds like you are not using Dr. Costantini for guidance, please keep in mind that he is just an email away and can also help to get the Sinemet dose adjusted correctly and take some of the stress off of the both of you! Dr. C, as a neurologist, is well versed in the use of all PD meds and is also well versed in the use of thiamine as adjunctive treatment to all of the standard PD meds, probably more so than anyone else on the planet. In other words, he is a great resource for HDT treatment for neurological issues!

Here is a link to all the information you may need about HDT, Dr. C, contact information, member's results using HDT and much more!

Good luck and please keep us posted on your mom's progress!

I have a scale which weighs only grams so used it sometimes until I figured the scoop gave me an accurate measure of 2 grams a shot leveled out do this is what I've been using.
