Has anyone here tried his methods? If so, what were your results?

This guy is a fraud - no harm in trying these exercises though!

You have no proof that he is a fraud. Why don't you open up your mind a bit. I was diagonosed in 2013, and was put on Sinemet straight away and told it was a natural supplement. That's what i call fraud..I have met so many people with PD with your attitude and I am appalled its like you don't want to find cure and are happy to wallow in your condition. I'm always, eager to find people who have revesered their symptyoms. As it isn't really a cure as if you go back to your old ways then symptoms return. I have read about this man before he has recovered quite a few years now. I suppose you think he,was misdiagnosed. That's a Doctors standard reply.

Im sure we can heal ourselves but there is so many types of pd and everyone has different views on what works for them. We as fellow PDers should be applauding anyone who has managed to reverse their condition not just accuse them of conning people. I have spoken to and read about too many people that have healed from Parkinson's for it not to be possible. Why are you opposed to the idea that we can makes things better. I have, found that i have to tolerate an awful lot of horrible side effects from the medication that were not exlplained to me properly at the start. I don't think we should be given meds as soon as diagonosed we should be told all the alternatives at the start and I would have not gone down the medication route until I'd exhausted all other routes. I wish I knew how the meds can give you more problems than the condition as with me and I'm left trying to cope with the on/offs. I wish I'd knew about people like this man when I was diagonosed instead of the 'it is a degenerative condition'

I do believe that some people have recovered from PD. I think there is evidence for this. For example, Bianca Mollé is convincing.

However, I do have doubts about Howard Shifke. See my other comment below.

Got as far as "Gallbladder Meridian point 21" .. left page.

A trained scientist, I used to be dubious about Chinese medicine myself. But I've now had experience with qigong and other modalities. I much more open to it than I used to be. There is something there.

I have doubts about Howard Shifke though, to be honest. He was arrested for forgery, for example.

Check out these comments from:

forum.parkinson.org/topic/2...

"I've looked into this as well. Anyone considering Howard Shifke's 'Recipe for Recovery ®' (linked above) should be aware Shifke surrendered his Florida license to practice law, after allegations of ethical misconduct."

"It also appears he was arrested for forgery: mugshots.com/US-Counties/Fl...

"He claims to have cured himself, but when I look at the videos he's posted of himself doing various chants and movements, it looks to me like he still has a noticeable resting tremor in his left hand. And those videos are from several years ago--he's posted nothing more recent. Is he still "recovered"?"

I bought his book and was impressed by his description of what he went through. For him PD was genetic - his mother had it for 25 years and eventually died from what he believed to be medicine-related side effects. So he committed himself to not using western medicine. If he did have PD, it must have been early onset and very rapid progression. I believe he says that 9 months passed between diagnosis and his "cure". He describes symptoms that were moderately severe (pulling himself up stairs, falling often, muscle cramps, etc.)

He had previous experience with traditional oriental medicine, and I believe that, if he did have the success he relates, it was due to this belief. I couldn't find that in myself; for better or worse I'm a "westerner" with a primarily scientific belief system. I tried some of his exercises, admittedly half=heartedly. They are very simple movements and I just couldn't see how they would possibly have an effect, so I gave up.

Also, it's clear from his story that he was under incredible pressure from his job just before PD manifested. Eliminating that pressure was another key factor in his "cure".

I think anything that loosens up shoulder muscles is worth a try. My husband is very tense through the muscles in his neck and shoulder and has trouble with fine motor skills in his hands. If this helps increase blood flow to those areas it might help repair nerve damage and relieve stress. I think sometimes these things may work but not for the reasons that they say. For example I find qigong quite calming but all the energy flow stuff seems a bit strange. But if you think of it as stretching, breathing and loosening rubble in your circulation system and sending it off to various organs to be purged it makes more sense to the rational mind!

I don't think Howard is a fraud. He's an acupuncture doctor. His techniques may not be for everyone, but he seems genuine. Anything that helps loosen up the shoulders is a good thing so I will give this one a try.
