I am taking 1500 mg B1 from Vitacost.com as per Doctor C. My concern is that after looking at the ingredients of the B1 there is a lot of fillers like cellulose, stearic acid and microcrystaline. Could any of these fillers cause problems when taking big doses of B1

There cannot be much filler in the Vitacost 500 mg capsule because the most thiamine HCl I can cram into a capsule of that size is 400 mg. If you are really concerned about fillers you can do what I do - buy pure thiamine HCl powder and do your own capsules. I do not recommend it because even with an appropriate jig it is still labor-intensive.

If the fillers are concerning to you and you would like to avoid them, we have a new option from an Italian pharmacy that will make the capsules using no fillers / excipients and ship worldwide. Dr. Costantini looked into this option for the rare case where the fillers may pose a problem. He said he feels that this pharmacy will be very reasonably priced and now we have that option! I will be adding that link to the "thiamine /HDT primer" page very soon for anyone who is interested in this option.

Another option is that a local compounding pharmacy may be willing to do the same for you as this is an over the counter item.Lastly is the pure powder bulk form, but it is bitter and needs to be taken with something sweet to off set the bitter taste.
