Divorce child support and alimony

My wife filed for divorce about 2 years after I was diagnosed. I was very wealthy at the time, but I told my ex we needed to be careful about our future finances and not spend as much. She wouldn’t have it. Drivers, nannies and staff were more important than my health and she got the sleeziest attorney and went after me. She got everything she could out of me

Fast forward 5 years and I’ve been paying for her lifestyle while I live a simple life. I am out of money and I haven’t been able to earn like I used to. The threats are coming at me and I don’t do well with stress and public appearances the way I used to and she knows it. I’ve been pushing myself hard at work but it isn’t enough. Does anyone have any experience with a situation like this one? Any advice? Thanks.

Oh my God Ted. You need to find a skillful divorce lawyer, go back to court,, make sure the judge understands the situation, and get the alimony revised. This should eminently doable, given the current facts of the matter.

I was thinking the same thing about getting a good lawyer and see if there's anything they can do. I live in Indiana & we don't have alimony in this state. Even though I'm female, which I believe females usually benefit from it more often, I don't agree with paying alimony. Sounds like you have a lot of stress in your life also. Do you go out with friends, exercise, meditate, etc.?

Put on your boxing gloves now, and stop waiting for the compassion and understanding that’s never going to come.

That’s what it is isn’t it? I’m waiting for some kind of compassion that is never going to come

I do not know the details of your relationship, so perhaps she thought she had good cause. That said, divorcing you, and extracting rich alimony, after your Parkinson's diagnosis offers a clue as to the kind of person she is.

retire then she will get nothing, as as pd advances you will find it very hard to work.some sick people,, what goes around comes around bad. things will be returned to her many times over im a great believer in that.regards.

Ted

I like to believe that every cloud in my life has a silver lining

even if not readily apparent

I've had several fairly dark clouds including PD diagnosis

I eventually found the silver lining on most

so far, my clouds not quite as dark as yours

I hope you find the silver lining

Love > hate

Good lawyer!? That's a joke. If you have a simple life just retire and take care of yourself. No one can force you to work while having PD. Fighting in court will bring you a lot of stress and will aggravate your PD. So, fighting for what? Better pass the stress to her by giving her nothing.

If he does not get approval of the court, he could be thrown in jail, lose his house and his bank accounts for failing to pay child support. This is no joke - such things have happened.
