go to Rytary.com

Look for the financial help tab. Apply for assistance. You could get it free or for a much lower cost. Good luck

Rytary is merely time-release carbidopa / levodopa. Sinemet CR is generic, inexpensive, and does the same thing.

No it's not the same. I've been on both. Sinemet CR gave me pretty bad side effects. Rytary works and doesn't make me feel terrible. But sure, try Sinemet CR and see if it works for you.

Interesting and thanks for sharing that. Just goes to show how different we all are one from another.

As park_bear says Rytary's active ingredients are levodopa and carbidopa. Each Rytary capsule comes with immediate release beads and two types of delayed release beads. The net effect is that the whole dose lasts much longer than a normal (Sinemet) dose.

You can get a similar effect by taking four suitably sized and timed immediate release carbidopa/levodopa doses. I explain how to do this in a post to the Neutotalk/Parkinson's forum:

Depending on why your doctor has recommended Rytary there may be easier ways to treat your condition. Are you already on immediate release carbidopa/levodopa? And what are your problems with your present regimen?

As I responded to park bear, Rytary does an excellent job for me. Before getting Rytary, I tried what you suggest, and even very small doses of Sinemet, and after that Sinemet CR made me feel terrible. I was breaking Sinemet pills into ridiculously small pieces (not easy) . Everyone's different and what you suggest might work for some, but not for me. I have no scientific reason why, but maybe the lev/carb ratios are different? Anyway, this was my experience.

Your pharmacist is ripping you off.

He could've explained this to you.

Always look at GoodRx coupons.

Example; I take Isradapine, normal retail $138, with good RX coupon $39, 71% discount. When I get a 90 day prescription, it's 85% off.

Also, tell your doctor you want 90 day prescriptions instead of 30 day.

Sinemet ER 50/200, 30 pills, $13 per month with GoodRx coupon.

Rytary, 90 pills, $268 per month

I had the same problem. What country are you in? I live in the US and I've used the following two foundations to pay for my Rytary. You have to apply, and it's a pain because you have to provide proof of income, etc. but they cover the remainder of my cost after my insurance pays its part. Of the two, PAN was the easiest and most helpful.

PAN Foundation: panfoundation.org/index.php...

The Assistance Fund: assistfund.org

PAN helps low income apply online or Good RX will discount 40 % free card onlineAlso The My Rytary .com gives a card free 1 month then 25 month if you are not insured.
