Anyhow as I stating in the missing post vit B6 is extremely toxic and could possibly be deadly. I have first hand experience and I’m still suffering. Feel free to question

Not unless you are taking high doses which can cause peripheral neuropathy. Some vitamin B6 is a necessity. See my post:

Levodopa Medications, Vitamin B6, and the Hinz protocol

Suffered B6 Toxicity which was serious from a B complex supplement which I later found out was many times the recommended dose. It caused Gastrointestinal symptoms, such as heartburn, nausea and numbness. I do not remember the brand but when I showed the bottle to the doctor he indicated the supplement contained toxic levels of B6.

Lesson to be learned. Always check the amounts of supplements and compare to the recommended daily value. More is not always better as I learned.

Which brand was that?

A few years ago but I believe it was Jarrow brand? with 35mg combined B6 taken once a day. A maintenance dose of 1.5 to 2.5 mg is the recommended maintenance dose. I was taking the supplement for several months when the problems started. A blood test showed horrific B6 toxicity. It is quite possible that the source of my supplement had a much higher concentration of B6 than the label indicated?

Ok thanks. My husband is taking one with 100mg at the twice a day dose. But at only half the dose so he is taking 50mg. We might give that a break then.

But this report says that this dose should be fine:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/163...

“Abstract

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) causes neuropathy at intakes of 1000 mg per day or more, which is about 800 times the daily intake from foods. There have also been occasional reports of toxicity at intakes of 100-300 mg per day. The US authorities set the no-observed-adverse-effect-level at 200 mg per day and the safe upper limit at 100 mg per day. A report of neurotoxicity in 2 patients who had taken 24 mg and 40 mg of vitamin B6 per day respectively, may be coincidence rather than a true toxic effect of such relatively low doses. However, physicians need to remain alert to high intakes of vitamin B6 as a cause of unexplained neuropathy.”

That dose should be fine. I take 50-100 mg of B6 daily, and have been doing so for years and have had no problems. Is very important to take as much B6 as carbidopa, albeit at different times of day, lest B6 get depleted.

Doctor Marty Hinz blames carbidopa induced B6 deficiency for the high death rate of Parkinson's patients. He may not be correct, but there is no question that carbidopa depletes vitamin B6.

A recollection of how much vitamin B6 was in it? And how many capsules of it did you take per day?

I am a member of the subscription website Consumerlabs. They test supplements. They tested a Jarrow B9 supplement and found it contained the amount listed. Contrary to popular belief, most supplements contain exactly what they say they contain.

So I think that your vitamin B6 difficulties fall under the category of everybody is different. For most Parkinson's patients is important to take at least as much B6 as carbidopa, albeit spaced at different times, to avoid B6 depletion. I personally have been taking 50- 100 mg B6 daily for years without any difficulty.

For those not taking any conventional meds but MP, what is the ideal B6 intake? Kind of confusing as it was suggested in this forum that high amounts of B6 such as the one you are taking causes peripheral neuropathy. Thank you!

Carbidopa is main guilty party when it comes to depletion of B6, so your requirement will be much less. Exactly how much I do not know. B6 is said to enhance conversion of levodopa to dopamine before it gets into the brain, so do not take B6 at the same time as your mucuna.

Thank you! My husband has been taking "DopaBoost" which lists: Vit B6 5mg, N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine 750mg, MP 425mg/60% L-dopa, Green Tea Extract 100mg, and Quercetin 100mg. MP with B6! He also takes Magnesium SRT (dimagnesium Malate 500mg, by jigsaw, which contains another 5mg of B6, B12 6mcg, and Folate 200mcg. Very good Magnesium supplement! I believe 10mg of B6 is more than enough for PwP, IMHO.

It pays to be careful. Individuals differ in regards to tolerance levels for vitamins as well as medicines. I've had a lot of trouble with medicines prescribed by a doctor and have quit taking all medicines except those I have to have. Medicines for side effects of other medicines seem to have a bad effect on me.

Neuro drugs are highly toxic, can easily give you devastating side effects over time. I had 33 side effects from one Neuro drug over 12 months. I went psychotic on other. These could be Neuro toxin.

How much vitamin b6 were you taking ?

When I was experiencing morning sickness during pregnancy 45 years ago...my doctor prescribed 50 mg daily to reduce morning sickness. It worked and I didn’t have any side effects that I know if.
