Madapar and skin lesions

My father has been taking madapar. However since one month my father has red blotches on his upper body. They seem like plaques . I am really scared. I hope it isnt skin cancer? I took him to the doctor dermatologist and they took biopsy from my dads arm lesion. Results shall be out in 10 days but Im really nervous. I hope to God it isnt cancer. I hope its not Lymphona or other serious illness. The strange thing is, that ever since being on madapar my father has these skin lesions. What can I do? Anybody had any similar experiecne? would madapar cause these lesions on skin?

Madopar has two active ingredients, levodopa and benserazide. Levodopa is unlikely to cause this problem. Instead of the madopar you can try Sinemet or Rytary which has carbidopa instead of the benserazide.

Try not to stress until you get the results. From your description it certainly doesnt sound like cancer. Skin cancer doesnt appear lke a rash and lymphoma isnt a rash it shows up in enlarged lymph nodes. Its more likely to be something like psoriasis. Not nice but not fatal. I have never heard of madopar causing a rash. I wouldnt change his meds until you know more.

Thank you so much, I really hope so, Thank you very much

These are the most common side effects to Madopar:

.................................................................................................................................

abnormal involuntary jerking movements of the body. These are usually caused if your dose is too high and will lessen or disappear when your dose is reduced

mental changes including paranoia, depression, mania, agitation and hallucinations (seeing, feeling or hearing things that are not there)

fluctuations in the effect of MADOPAR known as freezing episodes. These can usually be helped by asking your doctor to adjust your dose

nausea and vomiting

loss of appetite

weight gain

constipation

skin rash or itching

confusion, tiredness, sleeplessness, or sudden onset of sleep episodes

poor muscle tone, hiccups

restlessness

water retention, cramps

.............................................................................................................................

As you can see, rash is on the list. A rash is common also as an allergic reaction and should be reported to his doctor as soon as possible. If it is mild the doctor may suggest an antihistamine or try a new combination drug, but assuming lymphoma is way premature and may just add to the stress level which is never good!

With any and all drugs I think you will see rash as a potential side effect These rashes are usually an allergic reaction to some component of the pill. In 10 years I haven't come across it as a reaction to madopar or sinemet but it is possible as easilly shows. However the plaque like rash you described didnt sound like the allergic type. Do let us know what the doctor says.

thank you very much for your kind reply. Yes the plaques are brownish reddish....they have increased ...its very upsetting...I am waiting for the biopsy results...in the meantime dad has dropped his madapar dose to just one per day as he is getting suspcious of the drug :(
