Thiamine dose

My friend started on Dr. Costantini’s thiamine protocol at the weekend and had a great introduction on the very first day taking 1 1/2 grams, however since then she has taken the 2 grams (1 gram at breakfast and 1 gram at lunch) as per Dr. Costantini’s advice and although later in the day she has had a little improvement from the earlier part of the day she has been worse.

Question is do you think she may have stumbled on something like her optimal dose at 1 1/2 grams or should she give the two grams more time to work?

The improvement of her symptoms on the first day were amazing.

If anyone can give a lead it would be appreciated Thanks

It's really way too early to tell, but the response is suggestive that she responds to it so the best I could suggest is to stick with Dr. C's dose and see how it goes. He has seen so many patients reactions that he is able to figure things out fairly quickly. Patience is important. Good luck!

Hi easilly,

Dr. C said to give it about 3 weeks at 2 grams a day and then get in touch with him or sooner if there were problems, as you say it's too soon to know the best daily dose but judging by her great response to 1 1/2 grams followed by a worse response should we let him know? We know he must be extremely busy and did'nt want to trouble him but just thought that he may have come across this before so early in the treatment.

Many Thanks for your help Easilly Much appreciated

I'm sure he has seen it before. It wouldn't hurt to drop him a note and see what he thinks. He usually likes a little more time to be sure, but if you feel strongly about it, send him a note.

Thanks easilly good advice

Think we'll see how it goes today and if the bad effects are the same, which are worsening of walking then we'll drop him a line later

Cheers

Hi Cincinnato

Thanks, yeah that's what Dr. C's protocol says.

Will email him and see if he agrees

i agree cincinnato. i started on 2 gm, and immediately had worsening of symptoms. im not going to stick with something, if its making me worse. so i stopped taking it, and i waited a few days and lowered the dose to 1.5 gm, and still felt worse than before i started the thiamine. i stopped it again and waited a week, and began again at 1 gm. within 3 wks, i had noticeable improvements, (see my profile) and have been taking that dose for almost 3 months.

dr c said i could try increasing dose slightly after 3 months, so i think i will get lower dose capsules, like 100 mg, and try increasing it 100 mg at a time. right now i have 500 mg capsules, but im afraid to increase it by 500 mg. i would rather do it a little at a time, to be sure the dose isnt too high.

Hi Seashore60,

ethelines

Please send me Dr. Costantini email address.

thanks

Have you received a reply yet ?

Yeah I emailed Dr. C and he kindly got back to me straight away with a recommendation to suspend the 2 grams a day and wait 3 days to start again with 1 gram a day.

It’s been perhaps too early to say if this is going to be the correct dose but she has had some positive signs that the thiamine is doing something ( better movement and a calmness) so it would seem that the 2 grams were too much.

Dr. C has asked that we give him an update every week.

I only have praise and admiration for him and his team who offer their knowledge and advice to all that request it.

Thanks...amazing how little tweaks in our B1 dose seem to have such a major impact on us !

Yeah it does seem that way, I guess it’s finding the right amount that’s the tricky part, but once found it may provide great benefits, Good luck!

I know this is an old post, but what a lot don’t realise is that Thiamine is part of the B vitamin Team. They all work together & taking one in isolation - especially at high dose - may potentially deplete others.

Some may start Thiamine & find it’s great initially but then they go downhill again often with different symptoms & it can be that their B12 or B2 etc, has plummeted. The other issue is that serum blood tests don’t show what is going on at cellular level. If most B12 in the blood for instance, is inactive & not usable, regardless of what the serum level is, the cells may be starving.

Thiamine also uses Magnesium, Potassium & Copper, all of which may also be depleted by high dose Thiamine.
