azilect is a mao inhibiter. i am sending this just as an FYI since many PD patients take this. MAOI's require a special diet. look up mao inhihibiters.

azilect was the first PD med prescribed to me when diagnosed 3 yrs. ago. i am

bi-polar and my current psychiatrist doesn't like that i am taking an mao inhibiter. mao inhibiters are used as psychiatric drugs usually pescribed after the others were tried without results. but when prescribing Azilect for PD i am not certain the PD doctors are as familiar with the MAOI grouping of this drug as psychiatrists.

i am doing pretty well with carbidopa/lea dopa and azilect so will continue to take it.

but i have taken it for 3 years when it might have been contraindicated for me.

Azilect is an MAO-B inhibitor and as such is much more selective than the broad spectrum MAO inhibitors.

My doc said, no special diet needed.

Same here. I worried about my diet at first and slowly realized that the foods warned against had no adverse effect when I ate them. My doc says the dose is so low (1 mg) it doesn't cause diet issues.

My doc said the same. Not to worry.
