7 grams per day.

Really? Based on what human clinical trial?

The fact is mannitol is an "alternative therapy" that has some science to support taking it. I am a firm advocate that ALL PwPD should take mannitol or trehalose every day for life until it is proven ineffective because the risk reward is very high in favor of reward and the risk is SUPER low as mannitol is simply a low cal sugar substitute.

But

-

there is scant information to determine how much is appropriate. The folks running the CliniCrowd website claim to have a formula, but the truth is the percentage of total respondents claiming benefit as compared to the number of people INITIALLY registered is low so I would take any of their suggestions with a proverbial "grain of salt".

Here is a link to a thread where I discuss how mannitol theoretically works:

With that in mind I would argue that the more you can take without a) gaining weight or b) having problems with your intestines is the amount that is worth taking. The theory behind my suggestion is that you need to get the molecule to your brain to have any benefit and only a tiny percentage is proven to cross the intestinal walls undigested.

As a counter to that I will add that I take a simple Tbs a day of trehalose in my morning coffee so perhaps one heaping tsp of mannitol in coffee in the AM might be sufficient to slow the progession of PD and that would be just about 10g.

-

Bottom line: Any suggestion of how much mannitol to take to help PD is an educated guess.

I take note when you post because I know that any opinion you have will be backed up by solid science and you give references so I can check it all out for myself. I value your opinion and I am grateful for the intelligent, time consuming research you do.

Thank you!

Hi, I read it affects the absorption of B1, so I stopped mannitol to determine if B1 effects changed.

Dr Constantini knows I take mannitol and he has not told me to stop it. I now take 1 tablespoon mannitol daily and 1500 mg thiamine a day and 1 mg azilect. Like sunvox i believe in mannitols protectiveness.

Thanks to everyone who responded. Good to know that people feel they have good results with slightly different doses. Hi
