is 700 mg of 20% L dopa in mucana pruriens the same as 140 mg? I’m thinking of swiping from 50-200 sinemet xr to mucana. I see my neurologist tomorrow

The mathematician in my family says yes.

The good thing about Mucuna is that you don't need to take Carbidopa with it, which is toxic anyway. It comes with a lot of other compounds in it which take the place of Carbidopa. It may also relieve any constipation you may have

Yes, I agree. It works fast for me without side effects..yet. I've been on the powder and sometimes tablet which contain 4 to 7 % DOPA, but still trying to get the amount/timing right. I use it sometimes according to the situation.

What brand Kerrington? My husband still struggles to find the "magic"amount of L-dopa of his MP (Barlowe's 650mg, 40% L-dopa).

That would be 250 mg of levadopa

I take the 500mg mucuna whole bean 5 to 7 % dopa tablets from Banyan. I take anywhere from 6 to 10 and chew for fast results.

I also say 'yes'. I would, however, recommend swapping one tablet at a time. For example, if you take 4 sinemet tablets, swap just one the first month, then two the second month etc. This gives you time to monitor if your symptoms are affected and time for your body to adjust. I'm swapping my madopar for mucuna by this method and it's going well. Not many neurologists know much about mucuna however, though there was a mucuna study published in the journal of Neurology this month which found mucuna 'noninferior' to synthetic ldopa.

The amount of levodopa in the 20% concentration of Mucuna would be 140 mg. That is not to say that you can replace sinemet 1-1 ratio. In fact the ratio is more like 12 x. The levodopa delivered for sinemet is assisted by carbidopa to break the blood brain barrier for therapeutic effect. Mucuna comes without carbidopa and you require much more. When using large doses of Mucuna you may experience nausea and/or palpitations.

I thought the car adopt was to assist with. Nausea?

Carbidopa prevents nausea. Mucuna does not contain carbidopa.

No, but the extract contains ingredients similar to carbidopa. Also, an EGCG capsule taken with MP will act as carbidopa.

I am confused. I take 1 tablet by mouth 4 times daily of carb/levo 25-100 TAB ACT , which I thought was generic Sinemet. I was hoping to swap out my general prescription of munuca (generic Sinemet???) but don't know the "formula" for the exchange and, as I wrote, I am lost...many thanks for any help that can be offered! Exactly

One of those is like 120 mg of sinemet

Don't think so. Can't compare synthetic medication with MP. IOW, 120 mg in NOW DOPA doesn't correspond to an equal amount of Sinemet. I may be wrong.

but how would I know how many capsules per day? thank you again!

I don't know exactly, it's trial and error. My husband takes Barlowe's MP 650mg, 40% L-dopa (260mg L-dopa). He is not on any conventional meds, though. Right now, he takes 3 capsules a day of this MP, but we'll try to add one more.

taking 7gm i e. one scoop of Zandoba(MP) is equivalent of 1.25 Sinemet + entacophone 0,5 tablet,This formula works for me for 3-4 hours. Two doses of MP and two doses of LD/CD. every day.

800 mg levodopa at 15% equals 120 mg. Per my neuro. Several people in my RSB class were told the same. If you take 25/100 of sinemet you would substitute one capsule. If tou take 50/200 mg sinemet you would take two. But discuss with your dr
